  • Auto insurance, Geico vs Progressive

Ok, so the wife got a new daily a couple weeks ago and I decided to shop my current insurance carrier Geico, against some others to see whats up.

First I call Geico and they tell me $1587 per 6 months with a $500 deductable, that's two vehicles w/ full coverage and liability on the fox. That is the same coverage I've had with them for 15 years.

2nd I call Progressive and they offer the same coverage/policy limits, etc AND full coverage on the fox for only $988.00 per 6 months.

That's $1200 per year in savings. I called Geico back and told them what Progressive quoted me and they basically said they cant even come close and that we would hate to lose such a long standing customer.

Soooo, is Progressive worth a shit ? I'm a little leary of it being so much cheaper. How is their service ? any first hand experience ? Geico has treated us well but I don;t want to throw away an extra 1200 a year.

what other insurance companies should I look at ?
    TIA

I have Progressive for 4 or so years and never had any issues. I basically just pay them though, I never had to use them honestly...

I filed a claim with them (Progressive) once and they sucked to deal with. Totally tried to rip me off.

Though that was almost ten years ago so...

I filed a claim last year with Progressive for hail. I used their concierge service or whatever... basically I just dropped the car off at their center and picked it up when it was done. They took it to the body shop, etc.

It was a pretty flawless process and I had no complaints.

I've since switched to Geico as it saved me about 50%.

Wow, that makes no sense to me based on what Geico quoted me.....maybe they want me to leave, lol.

Damn you guys must have shitty driving records. I pay about 850 every 6 months and I have full coverage on 2007 Duramax, 1967 Camino, and the wife's 2001 Tahoe. Not sure why I keep full coverage on the Tahoe. I use state farm same policy since 1990

I've had progressive most the time i've been driving, even when on my parent's policy in college. I had issues with them and total losses years ago, but in the past 5 years, they've been very easy to deal with. I just had a hail claim where I met a field agent at a body shop, and they cut me a check same day. No issues.

I've shopped around a few places recently, and I'm not sure if I'm stating more tickets than I have. (I estimate 1 speeding ticket a year and not at fault accidents or any other claims than hail since 2007), and Allstate is 200/mo more than what I'm paying with progressive for the same coverage and deductibles.

I'd like to get a new agent, as I don't feel like mine wants to deal with me or my questions because of shennanigans on this board, but I can't find another insurance company that will cover me for what they do. BTW I pay under 1200/6 months for the 2008 F250 in Austin, and I'm single.

Damn some of yall either have shitty driving records or shitty credit.

The wife and I pay $660 every 6 months. This is with two new cars full coverage 100k/300k limits, 10k PIP, rental towing, and all the other bs included.

They don't work at union jobs, so they've maxed out all of their credit cards and have low credit scores as a result.

Why do you need PIP since you have excellent health insurance through your union job?

Our credit is good, no wrecks in the last 5 years and no tickets on our records. We did have a claim on our uninsured for 450.00 a few years ago, but that's it.

Matt, so you are still with Progressive ? the last paragraph threw me off since I didnt think that person was an agent for Progressive.
