The A/C was on recycled, set at 72 degrees.

    KRISTIN!! Good to see you.

I ran by the Acura dealership when I ran to grab lunch and told the service writer about it. He said if it wasn't still doing it, then there wasn't really anything he could do and gave me his card in case it happens again so I could get a loaner while they check it out. I'll probably just keep this one, pay it off and get a fun car a few years down the road. Thanks for the input everyone.
Probably the AC clutch or compressor locking up.

That was my dilemma. I L-O-V-E the car. Drives awesome, decent gas mileage and since you told me about the 87 octane, I have started putting in mid-grade with premium only every once in a while :embarrased: so fuel isn't terrible. I was really only looking at newER TL's. lol They really are great cars.

I'll keep an eye/ear on it and let you know if it happens again.

Your tl has outlived its life span and is deemed worthless. I will give you 500 bucks to haul off that scrap

I hooked an OBDII Scanner up to my car.. ran a tank of 93.. ran a tank of 87 and saw 2* less timing and no other differences. ZERO knock. car is fine on 87 octane.

Sounds similar to when my alternator went out. Car shut down 2 days after the initial event

or plastic bag on the exhaust.

Never seen a ele issue, that was Honda's fault. Seen rats, and lightning strikes cause issues. lol

Keep the damn thing. It will last forever. Could have been the starter, but I would look more closely at the battery cables, specifically the positive. I replaced the one on our '06 due to a similar issue. All those plastic engine covers are nice, but they also hide problems with easy solutions. Have Craig pull them once in a while to eyeball things. I'm getting ready to do a complete timing belt and water pump job on ours.

It would actually be a mechanical issue. Bearings in the pulley or the compressor itself are failing, hence the hard crank and smoke (probably stinks because the AC clutch is engaged).
