  • I hate decisions...

I absolutely LOVE my 07 Acura TL, but it has 92k miles. This morning it had a hard time turning over, a little smoke came out from under the hood and it smelled like something was burning. That makes me sooooo nervous so I'm thinking about trading it in for something else, but I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I WANT!

Actually, I know-I want a Tahoe, but I drive 30k miles a year and can't afford that gas so I need to stick with something that gets half-way decent mileage. I wouldn't mind getting another TL, but would like a little more room for the kids. I am so beat down right now just thinking about car shopping.

Would you guys keep the 07 and hope for the best or would you trade it in while it's still worth something and get something newer?

    Ugh.

Where do you go to drive 30k per year?
How do we forget ourselves? How do we forget our minds?

I'm in my car all day for work, then carting the kids around all afternoon, we take my car whenever we go somewhere, been to CA once, Shreveport a lot and NC once.

The smoke thing should probably be checked out, and 92k miles isn't really a big thing, especially on an Acura. Just make sure and take care of the timing belt when it's due and don't worry about it...

Beats the hell out of a car payment!

That car will last 200k plus. Every car has problems here and there.

Take that Acura to Dealer Alternative and have them fix it. That car, maintained, should last 300k.

If it was me, it would depend on how much I had invested in the current vehicle and how much usage I've gotten out of it(mileage/years).

Check your belts and make sure the tensioner/idler pully can move freely. That would be the first thing i look at.

5 years old is a good age to step out into something different, but i'd check to see if the issues you have are $15 or $1500 before really diving into it.

Check out swapalease.com to see if there are any vehicles out there that you can just take over from someone else at least for the shortterm.

What you said in your first post, that's what I'd do.

"Smoke" can be alot of things. I bet it is something really simple. I would keep no payment.

Y'all are assuming there is no payment. I only got it 2 years ago so there is still a payment for 2 more years. Yuck. I do plan on getting the big maintenance schedule for 100k miles (which is over $1k, btw!) and the dealer said it should then last for another 100k miles with only oil changes.

The fact that I can pay it off sooner and have no car payment IS a deciding factor, but it makes me nervous to have a car I may have to put money into AND make a payment. But most of you are right-this car should easily last 200k miles + so that's probably what I'm going to stick with.

Mine needs new tires AND the fucken plate and inspection are almost due (Mar/April), so I am thinking of getting a new one too.

I still say you're right tho, and that's exactley what I'd do in your situation.

I honestly didn't know these decisions were made in the kitchen.

Doesn't the man usually make the decision with a can of beer in his hand, starring at the engine in the garage?
