  • Whats in a name?

OK folks, serious chit here. Since the shop progress thread is kinda getting OT I need some serious input. Having a hard time with my shops name and need input and know there are some creative fuggers here. I wanted CARS (Complete Automotive Repair Services) but many many shops are named that. Laser-Fire Automotive and Performance sounded like a gun shop.

So here is what I have to work with: My name is William Jack Lindsey and my partners is Jeremy Wayne Davis so there are the initials we have to work with but I am looking for anything that sounds legit and is easy to remember. Looking for suggestions.

I kinda like L&D Automotive. What say you?

How about L&D Automotive and Performance?

JJ's perhaps? Simple, rolls off the tongue, easy to remember. Your middle name, his first.

I'd leave off performance, it limits the kind of work people will think you do. If someone told me to go to XXX performance, I'm going to worry about cost because speed shops generally cater to the people that can pay a premium for certain services. Also, keep the name short and easy to remember, if people have to remember all of that then they're more prone to forget it. And also think about website URL's for the future. Do you want someone to have to type in www.ldautomotiveperformance.com, or something shorter and simpler?

L&D Automotive sounds good... leave the performance stuff in the background until you're established.

sounds good but i would drop the & between the L and D

because when people pronounce it they will be saying: L and D automotive and performance

having the word 'and' 2 times in a name is a little odd

                I dunno.

For a guy that doesn't pay much attention to car shops, when I see a name with just letters in it, I pass them. I have no idea. Maybe it is some subconscious thing. I would rather see a NAME in the name of the company. Just me I am sure.

Drop the "and" between Automotive and Performance, or drop "and Performance" altogether.

This and also, you want something earlier in the alphabet to be listed first in the yellow pages/online directories. Why do you think there are so many A1 or A+ businesses?

                      AAA Auto
                      ALD Automotive
                      ADL Auto Specialists

I would consider some combination of the above names. People in BFE use the phone book still and your shop would show up first-ish alphabetically.

The good part of being in a small town is you can use AAA Automotive and its a name people inherently want to trust, and trust is what would draw new customers in to a service shop. This would also carry over to an important part of your business which is going to be partnering with a local set of tow companies.

Lindsey Wayne Automotive, I dunno. Combine the names, it doesn't have to be exact, it just needs some relevance and some resonance.

Jack Davis Automotive then use JD Auto or JDA for logos etc.

Just think about a lot of the well known performance shops, many are simply known by their initials but have an actual name a well. LGM(LG Motorsports), LMR(Late Model Racecraft), HPP(HPP Racing), HP(Houston Performance), MMS (Murillo Motorsports). Since you want to do general automotive as well I think have a personal name with it is a good idea, this way you get the best of both worlds.
