  • Best way to private sale a car or truck?

Did you use AutoTrader? Craigslist? This forum?

Would you use the same method again if you were selling another vehicle?

I have a truck and car to sell and not sure which route to go. Your inputs will be helpful.

    Thanks.

I did all three with my Cobra a few months ago. It took 3 months to sell and it was to a kid off Autotrader. Trying to sell my daily on there now - 2.5 weeks in and 2 bites. Both cars were listed at or below KBB as well as discounted periodically and always middle of the pack or lower compared to other similar cars for sale.

I'm sure it depends on what you are selling but I just sold my 2003 F-350 on Racing Junk.com I had calls from all over the country.

Autotrader without a doubt. I have sold all my cars on that site. I never got calls from CL, Lowballers here, no luck with other forums either. Just take good pictures.

How does Carmax work? You bring it there, they appraise it, you decide and sell it to them? Just like that?

I've always had good luck with CL and forums. I will try both of those for a few weeks before I pay for any kind of ad.

hell, I'll let a vehicle roll for months on CL. I've never had a problem getting what I felt a vehicle was really worth if I waited long enough. All it takes is one person.

ebay gives you about 1,000x the exposure. listing a vehicle really isn't very expensive at all. set the minimum bid at your minimum price. DO NOT use a buy-it-now option!!!!!!!! just use ebay as an advertisement and do the deal outside of ebay

I've never had good luck selling a car on Craigslist, but all my bikes get sold there.

Autotrader is where I've sold all of my cars. I typically drop the price 200 a week till it sells. It seems at some point it's a sweet spot and then I get blown up with interest.

I've sold cars on here, jalopyjournal, and auto trader. Had a lot of hits off craigslist, and even got a non refundable deposit once, but haven't sold any vehicles on there or on ebay. I'd just put it everywhere imaginable.
