My wife's parents never bought her anything when she was a kid yet they showered her sister with gifts. After we got married her parents would give us old stuff they didnt want any more, TV's, computer monitors, microwaves, stuff they replaced with new stuff.
My wife would NOT get rid of any of it. Its taken me years to break her of it.

I can't tell you how many times I've been working on a project, some electronics or appliance, etc. and reused leftover parts from something. I typically even cut the cord off of something (like an old TV) before throwing it away in case I can reuse the wire/plug down the road.
That being said, I keep my stuff neat and organized. I have bins and tubs for assorted screws, leftover wire connectors, etc. I have a 3 car garage. It neatly contains a large, powered workbench with pegboard on the wall over it covered in tools, over 18' of shelving neatly adorned with bolt bins, fasteners, brackets, power tools, engine oil, filters, hoses, etc., a coke machine, several sporting equipment racks (golf clubs, basketballs, etc.), 3 bikes, a rack for the brooms, mops, and other crap plus a lifted golf cart in the 3rd bay. I can also put my hands on anything in there within seconds. So yes, I'm a hoarder of sorts, but it's organized and not all over the place.
