like it was stated above addicts always try to recreate that first feeling. some of it comes from your enviroment and some from genes. my brother was a heroin addict and i saw firsthand how much of a hold it had on him. funny thing is our parents dont have addictive personalities but their divorce is what caused him to cope in his own way. hes in prison because of it.

Addiction is all part of your personality. I'm an addict and I've been clean for almost 7 years. I can get addicted to anything. Simple shit like eating the same stuff or watching stuff on TV, sometimes it just gets irritating. Funny thing. is I don't have a problem with alcohol. I can get shit faced on the weekends and not drink a drop during the week

its a mental thing. some choose to try to escape the reality of life by altering their state of mind. the only problem is it only lasts for a lil while and then your back to reality.

Genetic, physical, and the least of all is mental. Anyone who thinks addiction is only mental, has never seen someone going through withdrawals.

I'd agree on the most part here. I think in Whitney's case, it was an escape from an abusive relationship and spiraled down from there.

I don't buy the "chasing that first high feeling" thing. I've done a lot of stuff, and I can't say the first time was anything special. In fact, for any drug I can think of that I've done, the best experiences with them came later on, after I became comfortable and knew what to expect, scored better quality stuff, was in a certain environment, etc. Yes, it's about chasing a feeling, but not the first time feeling.

I think a lot of addiction comes from wanting to get enjoyment from something, and then getting to the point that when you know it's bad for you in some way (or many ways), the joy you get from it outweighs (in your own mind) the negatives. The more addicted you are, the more negatives you can overlook. Eventually, I think a lot of addicts just give up and figure that they are just meant to be addicts, so they don't even try to fight it anymore.

My dad is a School Resource Officer in Parker County. They got to talk to a bio chemist. He says that after about 6 months of use of any drug be it alcohol weed, cocaine, ect that your body forms a chemical dependance on it and you will have a very hard time quitting. He says he doesn't know much about the mental aspect of it all but knows the bio chemist side and says that is one of the reasons have such a hard time quitting.

                                Cigarettes fit that description perfectly.
