It would be no more "bullet proof" than the vests of today without the steel plate in them. The skin may not allow penetration, but the blunt force trauma would most definitelty cause severe internal injury, and a bullet to the upper torso would highly likely be fatal.

Not bullet proof material. Spider silk with a tensile strength 5 times that of silk. Run a blade over steel a few times and see how well you can operate
