  • Visiting NOLA for a day or two - What to see?

I'm going to be in NOLA late March for family, but after that planning to check out NOLA and surrounding area for the next day or two afterwards. I'll have the wife and kids in tow. I'm already planning to spend 1/2 day at the WWII museum ( http://www.nationalww2museum.org/visit/ ) . What else is there of interest other than a stroll in the French quarter? I was thinking of visiting an historic plantation in the area, perhaps.

    Jackson square.
I spent two days there in Oct, and never drove my car, and took one cab. Stay in the city, and you can walk everywhere. Free drinks in the casino, and you can order from the slot machines. I spent a cool $12, and drank 2-3 drinks.

The Bourbon House at the Astor Crowne Plaza (corner of Bourbon and Canal). Home of the New Orleans Bourbon Society.

Cafe du Monde for a beignet.

WW2 museum is great - do the movie part too.

Go alcholic tourist and get a Hurricaine at Pat Obriens, a Sazerac at the Roosevelt, and a hand grenade from tropical isle.

if you plan on going to a plantation house, its a bit of a drive...most are a little over an hr away in vacherie.

I remember a few years back I went and saw some magic show with a buddy, and the magician was the old judge from "Night Court" his name is Harry Anderson. He owns a shop called "Sideshow".

Museum was cool. It was sobering to read letters from soldiers to their kids and all the western union telegrams. The movie really wasn't as good as I thought it was gonna be but it was still worth seeing. Got a hand grenade from tropical isle. Good stuff. There's no way you could see the entire quarter in a day.
