  • Ever had your credit cards cut up`

I was watching some 80's movie earlier and it reminded me of something that happened a long time ago . I had to stay with some lady from my church while my parents went on vacation.

Wasn't that bad cause she had kids but we went to some store... i wanna say jcpenny. She tried to use a credit card and when the clerk came back, he was cutting up the card right in front of her. She was like

He was saying thats what they have to do sometimes. Can't remember exact but... iirc this was 1989. Anyone else ever have this happen to you? Like right in front of you? I would think it would be more humiliating that just ahving the card declined.

They had something at target a year ago or so that you put your credit card in and it would check it it was stolen. If it was it would shred it and lets the authorities know.

Me? I've never had a credit card. I need to get one though.

Thats weird. Seems kinda like no one would have put their card in there. If you're a thief you'll know it, and if your card is legit you'll know it. Bet they didn't have too many takers on that deal

I cut my own cards up and threw those bastards in the trash.
I keep a Sears and Home Depot card locked in the gun safe for emergency only.

If I recall correctly it's been illegal to do that for some time.

I had that happen to my debit card with the Visa logo on it back in 1999. I swiped my card a few times and it didn't work. So the cashier asked to see my card. I handed it to her and she said the card was a hot card and refused to return it. A manager came over, checked my ID and my card, the names matched so I asked to have my card back. She agreed, turned, grabbed some scissors, snipped the card in half and then she gave it back to me. I went ballistic! She apologized and said that was the law.

I had a great conversation with my bank manager a couple of hours later and never used that bank again.

Never happened to me, but did not have a card really until the last 5-8 years.

I had a guy at hot topic years ago tell me he was going to cut my card up cause it was declined. I told him if he did he would find out what my fist tastes like. i haven't shopped their since then, i was probably 18 at the time.

You know the issuing bank owns the card regardless of how long you have had it...states this right on the back of the card or in the card holder agreement. They and the merchants can do what they want when they want since it is not personal property

                        This

I've managed to make it almost 30 years in life without a CC, and IMO they're teh debil! The only reason I'd even entertain the thought of getting one is if I was sure I was going to come out ahead in the deal.

I disagree, not the devil if you pay your bills in full every month. Helps build credit, earn rewards (cash, flights, etc...) and good to have in case of emergency.

I use my chase card for everything, in the past 18 months I've redeemed almost $1000 in rewards as cash deposited right into my account. I'd say that's coming out ahead wouldn't you?
