  • Decent starter grill

Interested in getting a decent gas grill, not looking for anything too expensive (under $300), and it doesn't need to be huge.

What I would like is a decent grill that will be durable (if taken care of) and will cook well. It will be used about once or twice a week, mostly on weekends or special occasions.

What should I be looking for? What brands should I stay away from? Where's the best place to pick one up? Mostly I've been looking at the usual places (Lowes, Home Depot, Sam's, etc.).

I know we have alot of guys who enjoy grilling on here, so let me know what you think.

I know its nothing special, but I have this cheapo Uniflame (similar to the one in the link) that has held up well for about 3-4 years. I have used the hell out of it. Hell, I had a huge grease fire(my fault) where temps were well over 500 degrees and it held up fine.

I agree, but like others say, if you are cooking nightly or every other night, gas is just more convenient.

If spending under $300 on a grill, I would stay away from gas and go with a decent charcoal grill, something like the Weber One touch Kettle or the Weber Performer...Otherwise, you will be looking at a Char-broil or a Brinkman, which will last 3-4 years at best.....If you could throw another $100 in you could get into an entry level Weber Spirit E-120.....I'm a Big Green Egg guy myself, but have owned many gas and charcoal grills..Good luck!

I suggest one of the charbroil infrared series. I love mine and am able to hit some very high temperatures.

Exactly, and while you may get lots of google sites comparing grills, nothing really compares to first hand experience. Most sites like Amazon and Lowes have reviews on grills from people who just got them, but nothing on longevity.

I completely agree, but I would like a gas grill for ease of use. They don't have the same flavor as a nice charcoal/wood grill, but when you're only cooking for yourself or one other person, it's too much of a hassle to be messing with.

I don't think it's more convenient, but that's just my opinion.
