FYI, I got a ticket for expired registration on the way to an inspection station, in a similar situation.
When I bought my 260z, it still had the Texas shaped inspection stickers, so you could spot that it was YEARS out of inspection from miles away. I get my Proof of insurance faxed to me, and put on my new registration stickers. The car is COVERED in dust on the drive down there from having sat for a while. I'm literally IN SIGHT of the inspection station and I get pulled over. I show the officer the 'fax info stamp' on the top of my insurance, showing it was just faxed an hour ago. I pointed out the car was covered in dust to show I hadnt been driving it. The mother fucker wrote my a ticket.
Granted, it was only a $10 ticket once I got it inspected so I immediately drove to pay off the ticket. They wouldn't let me pay off the ticket the same day I got it because the officer was still out on patrol. I was fucking fuming since I lived out of town and had to do the shit my mail.
