" you 911 you suppossed to know", mame what happened? " just send the police I aint answering no more questions". Just because you pay tax dollars does not give you the right to call and act like an asshole and that happens alotttttt. There is a huge difference between being in a panic and just being an ass and thinking dispatchers are psychic or there to bow down to your shitty attitude.

Who cares if every single call you get is from an asshole? If you're paid to sit your ass in the seat and take calls, nothing gives you the right to act like an ass when you don't get calls you like. Having worked in a few different call centers, usually hanging up on someone because you don't like their attitude or swearing at someone results in being handed a cardboard box and being escorted from the premises. And this is in a tech support environment taking non-life threatening calls.

You're right. You're annoyed when you're cut off from a call center, lives are lost when 911 hangs up on you and throws a tantrum

911 Dispatch center (random google pic)

Looks like people sitting at desks with headsets on taking inbound calls.

Call center (another random google pic)

Oh look. More people sitting at desks with headsets on taking inbound calls.

So where is the LOL again? Explain to me the vast difference between the two that makes you laugh out loud.

There is a difference, I've installed Cisco UC systems for both and been around both. It's not like I'm a complete expert though since I've only done 2 911 centers or so. They don't like the change anything that is stable and I understand that.

In 90% of your standard call centers, they are generally designed and staffed to have an average call waiting time built into them. Unless it's a collections group, which those are outbound call centers anyway.

Also, the discipline between a call center and a 911 dispatch cannot be compared. In a standard call center, you generally have a staff of "I don't give a shit" type people, constantly being micro-managed...etc In the 911 centers, there is generally higher caliber people (This is not a race thing either, the larger one I worked with was on a west tx border town) and they are constantly training, being silent monitored, recorded and so on.

You walk into a regular call center - you get a feeling of depression. You walk into a 911 center and it tends to feel more like a control center than anything. Police, fire...etc liasons there, people trying to work and so on.

edit: for the record, never technically a Cisco UC system for the 911 center itself. Most are still running older phone systems but they add applications and other things separate.

No mater how many times the 911 operator screws up they will never have a successful suite brought against them for failing to do their duty. Why is this so you ask? It is so because there is not a single law on the books state or federal that says that law enforcement is required to help or protect anyone. That being said, LE does a pretty good job and occasionally they make a dumb mistake or two. Cut them some slack, it is a job with odd hours that causes stress at home as well as on the job.

I feel for both sides. Havent heard the tape yet because Im a bit busy but as much as I like to say FTP, I feel for those 911 operators. On the same note, the last time I called 911 I was giving the girl an ass chewing.

Neighbors pit bull got out and was ripping apart a pedestrians dog in front of my house. I heard screaming when outside and the guy had just fought off the pit and was holding his dog and was covered in blood. I called 911 and the lady kept wanting more info even though I gave her all I had. I told her to send cops and animal control and said he was covered in blood but I didnt know whos it was because he wouldnt answer me, just was screaming random crap. She said she was not sending a amberlamps unless she knew it was needed, WTF??!! Thats when the ass chewing comenced. Luckily it was just the dog and they saved it (my wife rushed him and the dog to an all night vet). Oh and no amberlamps was sent.

                  **EDIT**Yes it had cropped ears

Exactly. Everyone knows the world is full of assholes and idiots before they take that job. If the paycheck isn't big enough then they should find another job.

Pretty well summed up. Despite the neat lettering on the cars, the police have no obligation to help you with shit or to protect you. And that's the Supreme Court saying that. So since they have no requirement to help us, they should be completely removed and replaced with something private sector that can be held accountable.

And when I called dispatch out here to report a guy lying on the side of the road with a wheel chair beside him I was argued with. The dispatch said my highway didn't exist, then it did exist but was outside of the county, then she didn't know if it WAS in the county, why couldn't I go back out there and bring the guy to them......

The officers hold themselves to the standards expressed by the "neat lettering on the cars" and for the most part they do a fine job.

The Courts didn't just say that LE is not obligated help or protect anyone in one court case; they have said it in 54 separate cases. Thank god the officers, deputies, troopers, marshals, constables etc hold themselves to a higher standard then required by the Courts.

Like I said before; cut them some slack.
