We all laugh when some nutjob calls 911 because McDonald's ran out of McNuggets. But the world is full of crazy people, they all own phones and 911 is the one number they all know. We shouldn't be surprised. No, the horror stories happen when regular folk in a

Number 3 has me wondering what exactly you could do when 911 hangs up on you repeatedly

Maybe you should go be a dispatcher for one week and see how easy that job is since you are the resident expert on everything. They probably should have played whatever thirty calls that first one made and how poorly she conducted herself over the phone. The second one was pretty bad on the dispatchers end, the third ehhh that girl was an idiot but he should have worked thru it a little more. 911 operators take more abuse then they should ever have too everyday on the phone. I bet you would sure like to be recorded every day you were serving. I am sure you never made one off comment joke or said anything shitty about anyone. I bet you never ever violated any rules ever. Get off your high horse every now and again. I know alot of former soldiers and have heard plenty of stories. I am not even mad when I post this but it just seems like you sit home everyday mad at the world searching for bad press on any type of government agency you can find.

I have to agree with Frost on this one. Luckily both times I had to call 911 in my life resulted in the call being answered, all the info being taken down, and the appropriate people being dispatched. That being said, the linked videos are absolutely uncalled for. Not only is 911 a service that I pay for via taxes (and one I do not mind paying money for), it is one of the more important government services. When people are calling 911 most of the time someone's life is in danger and there is absolutely no excuse to do anything except get the info on what is happening and send authorities to respond.

wow, talk about a chip on your shoulder. I found it amusing actually and my question was about recourse for the chick who got hung up 3 times and then arrested for a charge that didn't exist. I guess contempt of cop would be a better charge.

I've made several off color comments but never have my actions endangered the life of others.

No the majority of the calls they get are "hey can I get directions to so an so". Orrr my baby dady wont pay his child support can you send an officer over to talk to him". I am sure when you called, you were to the point, and respectful. When this happens, boom it goes fast and smooth. I have heard time and time again. Mame where are you at? " you 911 you suppossed to know", mame what happened? " just send the police I aint answering no more questions". Just because you pay tax dollars does not give you the right to call and act like an asshole and that happens alotttttt. There is a huge difference between being in a panic and just being an ass and thinking dispatchers are psychic or there to bow down to your shitty attitude.

Yeah, way to backslide. No chip here just reality. How did the first guys comment put her life in danger? Not sure where that was but there is such a charge as 911 abuse.

Right, nice deflection. Focus on the instances presented. "I need an ambulance" "click." Not "Hey, let's get you some help." Nope, straight up hung up, not once, but 3 times. Then when she drove up there, he arrested her. How do you find anything defensible about his actions?

Back to my question. What are the repercussions on this? I mean massive lawsuit for sure but.... surely the officer can be charged with something.

According to the report, there wasn't such a charge there. He made up a charge to punish her for daring to speak to him like that. And he LIED when he finally got around to calling rescue. The man was having a seizure and his daughter called. Expecting help, she got hung up on 3 fucking times. 3. Not once. And not only that, she was called names, browbeat for being worked up and then arrested.

                  Defend that some more

You just solved the problem you brought up in the post just above this one. If someone abuses 911 by calling for child support or directions or some other bullshit then charge and / or arrest them. But when it comes to an actual emergency I don't care how much someone swears there is nothing more important than getting help out to location.

As for the dispatcher needing directions or needing to know what is wrong, well some people are just stupid and / or scarred or nervous. Stupid you can't fix and if you don't work with 911 to get them directions to your location then it is the caller's fault. A good operator can talk a scarred person into calming down; I have heard plenty of tapes of that happening.

My point is a 911 call is not the time nor place to lecture someone on phone etiquette. If it is that big of a deal then have the responding officer speak with the individual after things are taken care of. This is common sense stuff, and people's lives we are talking about.

Impossible. Didn't you know that just because you pay for a service, you shouldn't actually expect to get that service when you need it?

Aside from the lawsuit and having a good lawyer, it would depend on management in charge of the 911 operators, I think. I don't know what kind of chain of command they have there but I would think they could launch an investigation since it is all recorded and then punish them accordingly (suspension, being fired, fined, etc), but I don't know for sure since I don't know any more about 911 service than they answer calls and dispatch emergency personnel.

I think they said the Sargent got 2 weeks off without pay and that's about it. Hopefully the payout will cover the move to a city where 911 actually realizes they are there to send emergency services to your house. Surely there's something that can be filed against the cop who arrested her for cussing on the phone

Not an east job at all. Aunt used to do this when she wasn't diving for dead bodies under ice up in PA. You get a call about a dying child (or whatever) and never hear the end result, day in, day out... It takes a toll on the average soul.

Have pity for those that have to process the hate that fills our world.
