Getting rid of debt, going to cash vehicles, limiting eating out have all helped us in this period because income is up and down and I needed to limit my exposure as much as possible.
The limited of eating out hurts me. Everyone needs to eat out. So much easier plus no clean up afterwards.

IBslow99. lolz @ Elvis. I've got everything I own in one stock, but its been working in my favor for 4 years, and should continue for at least another 2. Completely inadvisable, I know, but everyone does something that works for their own life.

I am just to the point in life and with my 10 years on the board to only put up with the old schoolers who truly know me giving me crap for any reason. I don't know this guy from a pile of kangaroo dung. I simply made the thread to get peoples insightful advice not smart ass comments?

Lmao! Still waiting for you to show me where I personally attacked you. Seems that perhaps you saw my logic when I brought up some cons of carrying cash around and that has obviously struck a nerve with you for some reason. I never said anything uncalled for or personally towards you that could have been taking badly. I actually only came in here to point out those cons of carrying cash simply because my mother was a victim of a robbery as she always carried cash, but then you wanted to start the immaturity and name calling like you're in elementary school and made more of it than was necessary.

can someone just come and set me up on this? I have been through it over and over and sorry, but I just can not grasp the whole budget thing....I know, I know, it's gonna bite me in the ass. I hate dealing with it. I pay the bills, buy the groceries, deal with the maintenance on everything, ughhh. I just don't get it. I suppose it's the whole "how do I really know what I will need this month."

What's worse is, I am really not this dumb. I deal with crap all the time that requires me to think outside of the box, the abstract. But the money end of things leaves me baffled...I think I will blame my parents...

I prefer using cash unless its at the pump, So i usually leave in a few hundred dollars in the bank account for fuel but other than that the bank is just used to cash my check and hand over the cash, That way theres no pending transactions, or overdraft fees because I thought i had enough money for something.

Wake-up call method: Take out bills + $20/day for a week in cash. When you run out...you may not get more. Depending on which day of the week you run out...these concepts should click in and make sense.

Some of the "smartest" perople I know are money dumb. It isn't about budgeting for them that's the problem, it is more of breaking a lifestyle and bad habits. You need to get yourself into a certain mindset before making the plunge or you will end up hating it and never giving anything else a try except the downward spiral that most are already in.

It's like playing poker for money. I can play with many different people and come out ahead in most cases simply because of a certain mindset. People treat money differently.

My wife and I have been living this way for about three years. We went from a 1500.00 a month mortgage and a 374.00 dollar a month car payment to a trialer paid for and two used cars paid for.
We also have more than 20 percent of a down payment for a house in the bank.
The hardest part is the stigma of living in a trailer, but as Dave says you have to live like no one else now to live like no one else later.
At this rate we will buy a house in four years with 100 percent down.
Is this a difficult transition? Yes.
                          Is it worth it? Yes.

I did the whole snowball thing on all of our bills and have one left outside of the cars and house. I guess it must be the mindset thing. who knows....guess more than anything I am tired of being the adult. I want to let someone else do the worrying.

Hm. I guess I should be glad I grew up poor. Being able to afford food & shelter still feels like a bit of a luxury. :wink1:

A lot of times it's just about learning that money doesn't buy happiness and that the people who love you will still do so even if you don't have designer clothes and gadgets. Not saying any of you need to learn that; just sharing what I've found out over the years.
