why is the family court system so corupt?

A close friend of mine is going through shit trying to get child support stopped. Apparently from what his attorney said, Texas purposely makes it tough to stop child support once the child gets old enough (18) because statistically after the child support stops, the mother and child usually file for some form of state assistance.

That guy is full of crap, there is no way a judge is going to make someone pay more than they bring home. Only way I can see that is if child support was set and then he had to take a drastic pay cut afterwards. In that case, he needs to lawyer up and try to get it lowered.

But yes, the family court system is heavily geared to helping women. I got primary custody of my kids in my divorce only because I wheeled and dealed with their mom who at the time was thinking very selfishly. Now, I walk on eggshells around her because the last thing I want is to back to court and her try to get custody of them. As much as I want to believe that the court wouldnt change it because I was there for them since day one I wouldnt be surprised if they said "oh, she wants them now so you have to give them up chump"

Reading your post reminds me of how funny it is to think about how far we've come in society, how much different things are now than they were 20 or 30 years ago, yet the judicial system still leans heavily towards the mother without much thought. Even if the mother has some bumps on her record, has no job, etc, and even if the father has had a full time job with the same employer for 10 years and is the best dad in the world to his kids. You would think that instead of having to prove the mother unfit, they would look at both parents EQUALLY and make a decision based on ALL facts. After all, 99% of the time both the mother and the father won't custody, they both loves their child(ren) unconditionally and would do anything for them and would do whatever it takes to support, love, and care for them without question. So, defaulting to the mother simply based on the fact that the mother carried the child for 9 months and gave birth to the child is really outdated thinking, IMHO. I know if I were ever in that position you can bet your ass I would be fighting for the custody of my kids until I was nearly broke. I mean seriously, think about it, the mom gets child support and gets to decide how to spend it. Most of which do use that money for the child's care/needs, but we all know there are plenty of shit mothers out there that let their child's care/needs go out the window and barely scrape up enough to buy diapers because they HAD to get the newest iPhone or the HAD to get some 20's on their piece of shit Honda Accord, or the HAD to drink and smoke and that costs money you know. All the while, the supporting father is getting pinched for every last penny and truly barely getting by, trying to survive himself and support his child(ren) and the mother. And that's not even including if the father has to pay alimony.

That said, even when the father's do get custody very rarely do they EVER get any financial court ordered support from the mother's. Nice equality.

He may not. If she inflated his wages and her costs of living, the amount in the temporary orders could be ridiculous. They won't suspend his license if he's not more than 6 months in arrears. Bottom line, he needs a good attorney.

They started this year charging a $3.00 fee from Moms & $25 at the first of the year for child support.

Im not sure when its gonna happen. But something needs to change in this country. Cause soon we are all gonna be broke & Uncle Sam is gonna be living it up. Makes sense, I've always looked at child support as a way to keep single moms off of welfare. However, my ex has a decent job, few bills, and has lived with her parents for over 2 years and they pay for everything. I think the way child support is structured needs to be overhauled. If you share joint custody then you should be able to alternate claiming the child on taxes.

I lost my vehicle, defaulted on my credit cards, barely avoided foreclosure, ect. Not that the judge cared one bit and still increased my child support from $400 to $600 a month while taking away more time from my daughter. It's shitty and there is little to no recourse for myself and many others in my shoes.

IMO, family law attorneys sell the ability to be able to protect your interests and know that any parent will do everything in their power to secure said protection. I must have seen 6 family law attorneys, had the consultations, and even sat in on a few hearings to see how they operated prior to making my selection.

In the end, all I had to show for it was what I would have gotten on my own with the exception of 10K+ in legal fees. Bear in mind, I believe this pertains only to men. But what can you do. You're pretty much expected to have legal representation.

Guy I work with was telling me his situation. Wife left him, filed, he has to pay 3k a month and he only takes home net 2800. If he cannot pay he could lose his drivers license and be sent to jail. He also has to give up half his retirement to her. What in the fuck? Men have no rights it seems sheesh.

The math is not adding up. I thought they usually try to get 25% of what he brings home depending on the amount of kids that he has.
