I think there should be some exceptions to this but yah they're cutting people by the butt load.

That's pretty cool of you. I made some dumb mistakes as a kid and know how hard it is to get a good gig when you've got that hanging over your head. It's part of the reason I've been with my current employer for nearly 7 years now.

IMO the only field you can really go into is some sort of trade.
The economy sucks right now and there are a lot of skilled non-felons looking for work still.

Just because an application asks, doesn't mean they won't hire a felon. Sometimes they just want to know if it was a violent crime, or theft. If you have either of those on your record, than you're going to be hard up to get a decent job. I was put on felony probation a little over a year ago for possession. While it definitely makes things harder people are still willing to look the other way when they see that it was a marijuana charge, and not a violent crime. Luckily my probation is deffered, and I won't have the conviction when I finish. It really showed me how much harder life gets when you don't worry about consequences though. Honestly after having to go through all this, if I had my own business I would make a point to hire at least a couple people with a prior felony. As hard as it is to find a good job anymore, its even harder for felons. Many of them are still good people, and they appreciate you and the job so much more for giving them a chance.
