I don't set out to sell outside of ebay, but it has gone down like that EVERY TIME...

more often than not, the winning bidder is a fucking flake and I end up contacting one of the other people I was talking with and selling it to them, then getting my selling fee refunded and dropping negative feedback on the winning bidder

but I also sell a lot of them before the auction ends... PRICE TO SELL!

I was very much like the OP. I had bought two HTC EVO's back when they first came out for $640. I sold one for $430 on eBay and got a nearly $40 bill...

Luckily (and predictably) the winning bidder had buyers remorse. So I got my FVF and sold on Craigslist for $400...I only use eBay to buy stuff...

Actually they are a large shareholder (about 25%) and have been since the mid 2000's. They own or own a portion of tons of companies.

My company consigns items on ebay. The fee's are a bitch but if you read the fee's and specials correctly, it's not to bad.

9% isn't bad, would love to get back to that.

On average at one point I used to pay 16.5% of my gross sales annually to ebay/paypal for various fees. I was able to get it down to ~12.5%.

Shit service, basically aid buyers committing fraud, made more money per item than I did with NONE of the risk. I get scammed out of one higher end item and I would have to sell 10 more just to break even for the scam. Really pissed me off to pay tens of thousands in fees annually and get treated like shit, fuck 'em.

Although, as a buyer it's great. If you know what you're doing you'll never get scammed no matter how shady the seller. If you REALLY know what you're doing you can get most "normal" items for free (not talking about vehicles and real-estate or other LARGE purchases) with no repercussions from ebay/paypal/law-enforcement.
