Rolling Stone has sucked since Hunter S Thompson stopped writing for them. Van Halen has sucked since at least the first time I heard them. I'll go back to my listening to NKOTB now...

Yet your name-dropping of guitarists' is your only argument?

I named two guitarists and a smattering of other musicians because I was told that my analysis was invalid because I hadn't mentioned tastes of my own. As per the Van Halen nuthuggers in here, music cannot be analyzed on its own; it has to be compared to something. Which is absurd.

So because you don't play his shit, it's invalid? He made contributions to music as a whole in relation to melody and chord structure, not merely the mechanics (read: mechanics) of rock guitar. You're citing Guitar Player and all of these little buddies that I supposedly listen to now (I still have no fucking clue what you're talking about in the very least), and yet that's what has spawned a generation of no-talent, tasteless assclowns. Your entire analysis rests on the opinions of kids that can't play guitar and music magazines.

Rolling Stone recruited many well known guitarists' that complied the list (Hunter S Thompson has nothing to do with this, by the way...LOL).

Based on the muscians that compiled that ranking (done in November of '11), please inform me as to why you know more than those guys? Again, read the list of guitarists' that voted on those 100.

I gave you a valid basis for his ability. I can always tell when you're over your head. Just admit it. Jeezus...

You're right. I don't even listen to them. But that's not what this is about.

That list is one of the most controversial lists every time they put it out. All they cite in the article is that they compiled the group of musicians to rank their favorite guitarists; they say nothing about the process. Also throw in the fact that David Fricke and David Browne are involved in the process and I could care less.

And I still haven't said he's not talented, but merely that he wasn't the second coming of jesus and his guitar playing was rather tasteless (which has been a matter of opinion of mine the entire time.

You're so fucking self-righteous it's unbelievable. Seriously, tell me all about these dudes that I listen to today that are influenced by EVH.

You still have no counter to the point. If you want to ignore all the pro's, then what does it take? Please understand that he's not even my favorite guitarist (or even close). I've never played any of his stuff. I DO, however, recognize what he (and they) accomplished in that era.

The Hunter S Thompson remark was used as a marker for the last time Rolling Stone had a hint of validity.

Exactly. And EV can definitely PLAY the guitar, it's his choice of what to play on it that blows.

Junior, please. You're really coming across as a snot-nosed punk. MOST of the rock guitarists' of this era are influenced by him or Hendrix, or...
