If either of my boys were ever bullied to the extent I see on these talk shows, that will turn into "My dad is going to beat the fuck out of your dad".

My nephew was getting bullied on the way home on the bus. My brother finally got it out of him what was wrong. My brother went to the kids door and told the old man he better do something about it. The old man said, "They are kids, let them fight". My brother told him that he feels the same except his son is 7 YEARS OLD AND THIS KID WAS 12 and if the shit dont stop he would whip his ass. That shit stopped right there....

Exactly. I think the person who is getting the biggest disservice done to them is the bully. These kids these days that bully others don't get punched in the nose any more. They grow up and think they can do whatever they want and end up in prison.

It's such bullshit about not being able to defend yourself at school. This country teaches that if a bully hits you, you hit back ten times harder. Japanese bomb us, we nuke them, they blow up our towers, we steal their oil and send in a SEAL team to kill them.

Even basic crap, if someone comes up and takes a swing at me, I will hit them right back and the law says it's self defense. Someone breaks into my house and threatens me with a knife, I can shoot them.

How can you see that example, then go to school and have them tell you to turn the other cheek and not to fight back?

I agree. But the policies at schools are to protect themselves, not the students.

It's a sad world we live in. Back in the day, both kids would be snatched off the bus, plopped down in the principal's office, waiting for parents.
I would have welcomed the opportunity to get both boys and both sets of parents together and hashed the entire story out, dealt with the consequences for both kids, shook hands, and parted ways. Instead, it was excuses, requests for video footage that was inconclusive, and having to use the school as a go-between.

When I pointed out how incredibly irresponsible their approach was and how they're enabling our children to shirk responsibility and accountability, the principal said that the 'old ways' harbor too much liability and they have to follow protocol, rather than using common sense.

At least he admitted they are not using common sense....

Which was as disheartening as a limp handshake from someone you looked up to.

FIgures in Cali. When I was in third grade a got into a fight with a 5th grader. I got beat uo and went home with a massive black eye. My dad was woring on his truck when I walked up. He asked what happened and I told him. We walked down to the kids house and my dad knocked on his door. Man answered and my dad asked if he was so and so's dad? Guy said yeah and my dad beat the crap out of him.
Never had another problem from that kid.

I remember stupid people saying "fighting never solves anything". This is total bullshit. If someone is bullying your kid teach them to pop the bully in the nose when there are as few people as possible around. Try to make sure it's off campus, if possible. I would agree with some of what's written above and have told my oldest the same thing. To try to use the system, but don't let bullies get away with anything that is avoidable. Even if he gets in trouble at school, I have his back, unless he bullies someone. Having grown up as one of the youngest and smallest in my class, I was picked on. To me these are very valuable lessons that all parents should step up to. If not, you may be the "tough guy" who answers the door and gets your ass handed to you because your son has not been taught not to bully.

                          My 2 cents.

It is hard for me to say what I would do in this situation being as I am 23 and have no kids, but imagine that I would be really, really pissed if my son's life was threatened at all. I would demand that the kid be placed in alternative school or some campus apart from my son's.

I remember when I was in elementary school and some kid brought a knife to school accidentally amd he got sent to alternative school for a while.

That's really easy to say, but in our litigious society, you don't know who is going to file assault charges or try and clean you out in court. It's like the recent story about the kid who was investigated for sexual harassment for nutchecking a bully. Had they pressed charges, that 7 yr old would have been labeled a sex offender for defending himself. http://boston.cbslocal.com/2011/12/0...-boy-in-groin/

Well, don't do anything and see how that turns out.

                                It will be worse.
