  • Truckers, I have a question about my busted windshield...

Driving down 183 this morning, a truck nipped a big rock in his lane and it shot that mofo right into my windshield. Not that it matters, but I was about 200 feet behind him and in the next lane over.

I took a photo of the carrier and TXDOT number on the truck, but the company owner said he isn't hauling rocks and he's not resonsible for debris in the road, which I do kinda agree with.

So is there any recourse on it through the trucking company, or am I stuck paying for this one myself?

Most of the time you're stuck, unless you want to take it to small claims. Insurance should cover it. Kinda curious how much a new windshield costs on that thing. Sucks dude.

Goddamn. Just clicked on the pic after posting. Was it a fucking BRICK?!

Danny, the only way I've had any success with that kind of claim is if the truck/trailer was negligent in some way. In my case, I was able to show that half of the trailer's mud flap was torn off and it wasn't adequately preventing debris from flying up. Anything other than that, and they're just going to say it's road hazard and out of their control.

If it didn't come off the truck then you are going to eat the cost.

Damn! You're lucky it didn't hit the grill or hood! Hate to see it, but I think you should consider yourself lucky.

They will not pay, I had those cocksuckers Lattimore from McKinney drop a chunk of concrete from a cement hauler and I got all of his information and they never payed me a dime.

A windshiled without the pony is about $175.00 if you want the pony in the center top, its $250.00 both still have the bubble shade. I just did Rafas a few months ago.

Why in the hell would the truck be responsible for a rock that came off the road? Man up and by a new windshield, shit happens. If it was a personal car or pickup would you have gotten the license plate and tried to make them pay?

It was about the size of a fist.

Didn't mean to light your tampon, Nancy. I was just asking if there's a SOP for trucking companies when dealing with this kind of thing. It's not a big deal, but I'd rather not spend the $250 if I don't have to.

Even if it comes off the truck it is hard to make them liable for it. I was in the same spot you were in about 6 months ago. I just bought my STi (had it for a month or so) and I was in the lane over and a guy who had a trailer with a bunch of crap on it hit a bump a box came flying out and hit the bumper. It shattered my fog light and scratched up the side of the bumper where it hit. Surprisingly it didn't crack or damage the bumper. I flagged him down and he wouldn't pull over. I called the cops and they said they could not do anything but file a report... which = nothing.
