My Sync system in my Edge has been going down for a few hours a couple times a month since I got her and then a few days ago it crashed completely for 2 days. I took it back to Paris Ford and they told me the 'computer was down' and they didn't know when it would be back up. Well, I asked for a loaner since the Edge was useless without the Sync, no backup cam, no GPS, no climate control, no radio. They told me that I'd be getting a call in an hour to figure out what they were going to do.

I drove the wife's car around Paris for a couple hours and called back to be told the system was still down and Enterprise rental cars had no cars for me to drive. Right. Went home and called them several times before close to see if there was an update. I emailed corporate, the dealership GM, the service manager, Ford's FB page, the Ford Edge FB page screaming because my Edge was down and I had no car.

9 am the next day I'm told they found a car and I could pick it up. Show up and it's a white, 4 door Malibu. It looks like a bucked tooth tampon. I drove it 1.5 miles to McDonald's to feed the kiddo and then took it back. The rental guy asked why I brought it back and I told him "I just can't drive a tampon man. I'll wait on my Edge to be finished."

I head to Hastings for 10 minutes and am told to come get my car. I pick up a case of Cokes because I really have been a dick this whole time, as a peace offering and thought that was the end of it.

Today I get a call from Ford Corporate telling me that since I've lost faith with the Sync system, they'll reimburse me for a GPS up to 200 bucks so I have something if the system goes down while they work on the bugs.



I'm very impressed.

Cool, but that won't help with the other SYNC issues. SYNC is the biggest POS ever invented by man.



Edit: Skip always hooks me up with a good loaner too. In a Fusion now, nice little ride.

I think once SYNC goes down, the AC will not function, even with the dash controls. Not positive, but I think it fucks up a lot of shit when it dies and has no "manual" control available.

Once the Sync system goes dead, the entire center console is dead. Nothing works but the buttons on the wheel but that only gives you access to the fan speed and the overall climate of the car, not the zones. When it crashes the car sucks balls.

I compare it to the system in my wifes old Lexus SUV, and it sucks.

I have the SYNC in my mustang, but not the My Touch or whatever the hell it's called, and it never recognizes half of what I try to tell it. Luckily, my AC is all controlled the old fashioned way, by knobs!

Yeah, talking to it takes some getting used to but I love the "where is a gas station" feature

No, it gives me a list of gas stations nearby with the price of fuel and how up to date the prices are. It also gives me lists of movie theaters along with what is showing, the times and prices, sports scores, weather forecasts and so forth

This is why I didn't spend the money on the Nav system. Ford has been having nothing but problems with it. I've known two people that got rid of their Edges because of this problem. The explorers are even worse with the mytouch bullshit.

Seriously though, any system that relies on Fords servers to give you air conditioning is crap. That like Onstar on steroids. So Ford reboots their computers and 3 million cars lose their a/c?

And all they offer you is $200 for a bandaid that to go on your windshield "just in case it happens again"? I guess its cool that they gave you anything but screw that!!!
