    Tax question

    We had our first child in Sept '11 and was just wondering what is the tax deduction/bonus parents get on a newborn that was born? We will be filing jointly and was just wondering if it was a set amount for a child born etc. THanks in advance.

    Also, as I was writing this, my wife walks in to hand me Liam. She says I konw why he was fussy! I looked at her for a bit since she left that statement open. Thats when i noticed the puke on her shirt... I hate vomit...

                    He is a dependent. He could be born on 12-31-11 and you can claim him as a dependent for the year.

                    I was cheering for my son to come out in our hospital stay on 12-23 to 12-31. Little stubborn kid came out on jan 6.

                      There is no "bonus". Having a child you will be able to use the child tax credit which is up to a $1000 deduction from your federal income tax. Pretty big deduction, huh?
