Listen to this shit. My wife was in our carport earlier when she heard our dog going crazy in the back yard. She walks back there to see three stupid motherfuckers lighting the ditch on fire near the end of our property close to the neighbor's house. Our neighbor has a huge oak tree in their front yard, so the ditch, their front yard and a part of our back yard (we live on a corner lot). The ditch and the neighbor's yard have about 8 inches of leaves in/on them. She says something to them, and they run away down the street. She runs in the house saying there is a fire back there, she calls 911 while I run out barefoot half naked and start filling a 5 gallon bucket with water, i was able to get the fire out after toting about 50 gallons of water and tossing it on the fire. Dispatcher said the fire department and fire marshal are one their way. About ten minutes later, a fire engine and the fire marshal in a truck show up, by that time I had the fire out. They poke around, see that it was set by matches, get the description from her, he tells us he will drive around and look for a bit, and tells us to call the police department if we see them again...
Okay, fast forward about an hour. My wife happens to hear the dog going crazy again, looks out a window, and see the same stupid motherfuckers at the ditch AGAIN trying to set it on fire AGAIN. I tell her to call the police again, as I go outside. They couldn't get it lit since it was still wet from me piss-anting and tossing water to it before, before I get out of the house and to the back yard they are walking down the street, and THEN walk into a house. I come back in to tell this info to my wife who is on the phone with the dispatcher. While I am outside, they ask her is there is a fire, she says no but tells her the whole story, asks that an officer come out, they tell her that they will not send an officer out since it is a fire department issue and a fire marshal will have to investigate it. She tells them she is looking at the people that set the fire earlier, and again, dispatcher say she will not send officers, but that she will leave a message on the fire marshal's answering machine.
Okay, fast forward about an hour and a half. The same three stupid motherfuckers walk by again, they stop and look at the spot they tried to light up before, my wife (who was looking out the window this time, paranoid) again calls the police department, same shit, they will not send an officer... she is watching them try to light the ditch on fire AGAIN as she is speaking to the dispatcher, and the fuckers do not even care... dispatcher says she will leave another message on the fire marshal's answering machine.
Okay, I start calling around, call the fire department (no fire, they don't care, will leave a message for the fire marshal), call the fire marshal myself (no answer, leave a message myself), call the fire chief (no answer, leave message myself). I start getting pissed.
Fast forward about another hour, I am getting livid as the thoughts of these three monkeys coming back and starting another fire while we are asleep run through my head. I pick up the phone, call the police department, ask to speak to a police officer, dispatcher tells me no, tells me to tell her why I am calling. I give out the WHOLE story AGAIN, she tells me she will leave a message on the fire marshal's answering machine... I start shaking...
I tell her that I am worried about the safety of my family. I ask if I can use force if the arsonists come back and try to set the fire again. She asks me what I mean about that, I tell her I am going to sitting beside the window with my shotgun in my hands, and if I see them trying to light the fire again, can I use force to stop them? Of course, she tells me no, that if they do come back, I should call the police and they will contact the fire marshal and leave a message... I tell her I will do what I have to do to make sure the fire doesn't get set again. I hang up.
In less than a minute, I get a call, holy shit it is the fire marshal, he asks me what the issue is, I go through the whole story (which has now been going on for nearly four hours), he mentions he was just notified by phone of the call. He (who is a different guy than who showed up with the fire engine) is at our house in less than five minutes, I go outside, show him where the fire was, describe to him the stupid motherfuckers, point to him which house they walked into, and he takes off down there and is questioning them in seconds.
Long story fucking short, it took me telling the police basically that I was going to shoot the arsonists if they came back, for the police to actually contact someone. Seriously, I tell them that I am in fear for my family and they refuse to send an officer? We are watching someone try to light a fire which will burn at least one house down if not seen immediately and they refuse to send a cop?
WTF? Is the bullshit of "not my department, not my problem" so bad that the police will not send an officer when you are watching an arsonist start a fire? This shit makes me sick...
