  • need some help..

my room mates trucks(98 zz1) engine is fubared. he was driving it it died. we thought it was something electrical, when i got there the starter would turn it over once and quit like the battery was dead. i jumped it it still would start/would turn over real slow. i finally got it to start and it sounded pretty bad, wouldnt idle and sounded like it dropped a valve or a bearing was shot, it was a nice metal on metal roar and a serious miss. that being said the truck has about 190k miles on it. he called a couple junk yards and they quoted him at 900 for a new engine. does anyone have the hookup on a longblock(350)?

I don't have a hookup, but make sure you get a motor from another 96-98 pickup, or 96-99 Tahoe/Suburban. That's a Vortec motor, and if you get a non-vortec motor, your intake, and possibly your exhaust manifolds won't bolt-up to it.

Why is that? I LOVE my 98 Ext cab. Z71..best, most reliable vehicle I've ever owned currently at 211k miles. 98 Vortec 350 makes 255hp and well over 300 ft-lbs of torque which is MORE than capable of dragging a 6 thousand pound trailer down the highway at 80mph..and mine has gotten upwards of 18mpg when driven sanely. Of course a big BALLER like you would say some stupid shit like that...but most of us don't have the 40 grand laying around to buy a new Z71 with chrome 22's on it like you.

We replaced the engine in a co-workers's truck(97 Z71) a few years ago. I believe he got the long block from City Motor and it was around $7-800. It looks like they have gone up to $925 with good cores.
