  • Any way around this license plate fiasco?

I am buying/bought a C6 that I am picking up tonight. The problem is that the current owner has a handicap plate on it and has told me he is taking it off before I get it. I went online to print one of those temp transit tags and it will not let me (apparently if the car currently has handicap plates you can't print a temporary transit tag). So I called the DMV and they won't even issue temporary tags for it and said I'd have to go to the county clerks office. This is a problem since I work in Dallas, live in Tarrant County, and the car is in Wise County. I assume I go to the Tarrant County clerks office, but will not be able to get there before end of day today (and possibly not even tomorrow).

So what are my options, I guess just drive as little as possible sans license plate?

get a bill of sale for it signed by the owner with the title, and make sure you date it. While you drive it home, this should cover you.

Then go get it registered as soon as possible.

All of the TT&L were done at my credit union, so as far as the registration part goes that is done, but I am waiting for the new plates to come in which can take 2 weeks.

This might be possible if it were not a C6!

Bill of Sale + Insurance = All Good

or maybe, just maybe you can find someone on here that sells cars, and could write you up a temporary tag. Not sure how legal that is, but then again, I'm not a cop.

When I talked to the county clerk she said bring proof of insurance and $25 and she would give me temp plates. I don't have a problem paying the fee, but seems pretty ridiculous after paying them a shit ton in TT&L for them to print me a paper plate that I'll only need for 2 weeks, seems like one free temp plate should come free with every TT&L/new plates you buy! Plus there is the issue of getting up there during normal business hours (which are the same hours I work).

Just fold a piece of printer paper in half, get a magic marker, and write POLIC SK on it, then tape it into position.

                  You'll be fine!

Use Photoshop and make a Temp Tag yourself! Problem solved...

you'll probably be fine if you have all of your paperwork with you in the car (bill of sale, insurance, TTL paperwork, Credit Union paperwork, etc), but I'm sure you'll get pulled over if a cop sees you with no plates.

Did not work for me, I got a no plate and expired registration for a bike that I bought less than 30 days ago.
