A bit more on the boots. First

To the OP, try H&H or Double H, however you want to say it. They make a pretty good product. The sole on all of the boots carried by Cavender's Boot City have a work type sole. Not sure what type of work you do, but they have a new boot that is Bison. Its a really tough hide, yet its soft and supple so its easier on your foot, and it comes in steel toe and non steel. The non steel, if you are shopping at Cavender's will be merchandised with the casual/dress boots.

Style Numbers are DH4305 for non steel and DH5305.

As for the Nocona and Larry Mahan Boots.

Nocona is now a part of berkshire hathaway (along with Justin and Tony Lama), I'm not sure where they are made anymore. When Nocona was bought out, the production line was moved to another location. This is where Larry Mahan boots come into play. Larry Mahan is a Cavender's Brand boot. The Cavender family owns the Larry Mahan boot brand, (read: house brand). When this first happened most of the boot makers making the Mahan boot were from the Nocona days (read:quality). However, I think that over the years, these Nocona boot makers have retired/left and there is a younger generation of boot maker (read: lower quality). We have has some serious quality issues with the mahan products coming into our store. Welts not stitched properly, different size toe boxes, mis-aligned stitching, as well as some quality issues where the inner sole and footbed are concerned. However, Mr. Cavender (James) was in our store not too long ago, and we showed him all of the issues that we were having. Hopefully he can light a fire and get them sorted out.

Blame? Responsible for? A CEO is responsible for maximizing value for the shareholders, not holding hands and singing kumbaya.

You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

There is nothing more American than buying the product with the best value. It isn't our fault that unions, gov't regulations, etc lead to high cost and low quality which in turn leads to us buying foreign products.

I have both. H&H is made here in PA, thats where I got them. My Larry Mahan's I got down there in December at Cavenders when I was in Ft. Worth. My H&H I have had for almost 2 years and wear them in the field (oil field sales rep) I have put them through hell and back and they are top notch boots. They have the tread work sole on them.

My Larry Mahan's I haven't worn them as much as they are nicer (lizard) I will keep my eye on them though after hearing that.

Good to hear those H&H are holding up good!

As for the Mahan's, I think that the lizards may be an older run of boot as I haven't had any re-stocked into my store, however, we are a smaller volume store. The main things to look for are the back of the heel cup, a current problem we have is the come in "dented" if you will. And then the side seam on the inside of the boot is stitched/glued deeper into the boot (you can pull away a good deal of the skin and see the top side of the sole. I haven't seen many problems at all of the more exotic skins/more expensive boots. Full Quill Ostrich, Caiman's, lizards, etc. I wouldn't worry too much. The lower line boots are what we see the most issues with.

I buy 2nd hand for good old USA stuff unless I just have to have new. I'd rather put my money in the pocket of a fellow American if its something I need and in good condition like tools. You can find good used boots and have them resoled too.

The one that REALLY bothers me more than boots though, are AMERICAN flags made in China, Pakistan, etc. That just pisses me off to no end.

I have 2 pair of mahans. One regular leather and one ostrich. No issues to date and both are less than 2 years old. I'll probably need to replace the sole on the leather ones soon but i wear them 90% of the times if I'm not working so I think they have held up pretty well. Good info to look for if I just replace them though.

rubbermaid plastics are made in USA (at least everyone of them I've ever looked at). Pawless guitars are made in USA.

x2 on buying second hand stuff that's made here. Especially used tools. Alot of the Craftsman tools are built in China now, which really sucks since eventually once you get stuff replaced it will outsourced as well.

I haven't seen the stock in any other store, and it isn't an issue with every pair that we get in the door. If you've had good luck, no need to change! Also good to see another person who wears boots all the time here
