I check, but as Murphy's law has it, anytime I'm in a hurry and don't, something gets washed.

Obviously the solution here is to wash my own clothes, but then what do I do with the girl?
Not cool washing the can of dip. I'd be upset too. However, I'd recommend you make it your responsibility to check your pockets before tossing something in the laundry hamper. I use to get onto the wife about washing my Skoal cans and miscellany, but have long since refrained from doing so. Because she has really interesting ways of getting back at me.

if you knew she was going to wash, your responsibility...

if she broke routine and surprised you, her responsibility

Clothes go in the hamper in our house so if they're in the hamper, it's fair game. Are your dirty clothes spread all over the house or something?

Seems stupid to have a bunch of dirty pants in the laundry room with stuff in them. You're a big boy, if you can unzip and pull them off, you can empty the pockets yourself.

It's also a good idea to check your pockets before you take clothes to the dry cleaners. Some will return your cash but I doubt most do.

It's my responsibility to check my clothes. Since my wife does all of the laundry, she's responsible for her stuff and my kids' pockets. My wife got in a hurry last year, forgot to check my 11 year old's pockets and washed his brand new iTouch. They were both pissed - my son because his iTouch died and my wife because I took it out of her allowance.
