If you put it in the dirty clothes basket, the pockets should be clear. It is up to the owner to check/empty pockets.

If the clothes are out of the basket, for example shorts I wear around the house when I get home from work, then it is up to the washer to check the pockets.

In both circumstance, It is a smart idea for the washer to at least crumple the pockets as they go into the washer. It doesn't take that much longer and can save some items/clothes.

thats the way it works in my house. I used to be bad about leaving shit in my pockets intill I left a 100 bill in my jeans one day and my cell phone. The bill made it out but the cell phone, no such luck.

x2 It took a while to train her to this point and she tried to tell me I should check my own pockets but I told her "when the pant's come off it's go time, I don't have time for pockets!"

I also wouldn't trade mine for the world, it's too hard to train a new one, LOL

I am presuming the $203 fell out in the washer or dryer, undetected by said roommate.

Otherwise, there's a mandy in the house.

My family used to have a "who ever finds it, keeps it" when it came to stuff in pockets for the laundry.

I do the washing, she does the folding, and I've sent a couple pairs of my wife's jeans through the washer and dryer with chapstick in them, inevitably ruining whatever was in the load with them in the dryer. I've bitched at her about it, and it hasn't happened after the second time, but I always double check now just to be certain.

My wife has a house rule that any money found in the wash becomes hers. She makes some change off of me from time-to-time, but often comes up with bills from my daughter. Recently $60 worth of her Christmas money....my daughter was lucky that her Mom felt bad on that one.

Anyways...it's ones own job to empty your pockets..that or be grown up enough to do your own laundry.

just wait til she washes a packet of gum or a pen and ruins her favorite shirt/skirt/jeans. I learned the hard way. Check the pockets. It is so much easier than standing on my head trying to get gum off of the drum of the washer or dryer!

I made the mistake when I was a kid of telling my mom it was her fault there was a pen in one of my pockets. Had to do my own laundry from then on out.

Your fault don't blame you drunk the night before. I always double check my pockets right before I throw them in the wash

But the only things in my pockets would be my wallet. And I don't carry change and hardly cash and the cash would be in my wallet
