Whose responsibility is it to check pockets before washing?

Girlfriend washed a fresh can of Copenhagen Long Cut and rusted up my knife, again.

When I do laundry, I check pockets before placing clothes in the washer. Not only to prevent ruining the item, but to prevent ruining the other clothes.

She says she shouldn't have to check pockets. I can understand her point there, but it's not always easy to remember if you are changing in a hurry or getting back from a bender at 3am. If the Washer would just take two minutes and check pockets prior to washing, there would cease to be a problem.

Obviously the solution here is to wash my own clothes, but then what do I do with the girl?

this is exactly why i always empty my pockets. ive washed more pens and ruined more clothes than i care to think about

Just be grateful she is doing your laundry. My wife tells me it is my responsiblitly to be sure all pockets are free from misc items. She doesnt tell me how to mow the lawn and I dont tell her how to do laundry. We know our place in the house. I have been known to help with laundry every now and again and she just laughs when I screw stuff up. My folding is bad, I use to dry her V.S. bras in the dryer, and other misc errors. LOL We do split the cooking about 50/50 though. Welcome to 2012.

I don't check pockets. I check mine before I take my clothes off and so should you. It only took once for me to wash something that shouldn't have been for them to learn it.

Copenhagen is a bitch to clean out of the washing machine. And i check my pockets when i take my pants off. People around my house will steel your money if they find it in the washer.

I do mine and my 4y.o.'s...sometimes i leave a couple bucks in my pockets to tip myslelf to a beer or 6...
