  • State Inspection...

So, if Im reading correctly, cars that are 25 years or older can be registered as classic cars... my 87 GT turns 25 this year.

    a) Any reason why it cannot be registered as a classic?

    b) Are classics still subject to emissions testing for state inspection?

    Thanks!

Classics are not required to be emissions tested, only a safety inspection.

Yea there was a mileage restriction, so I just unhooked the speedometers cable

No milelage restriction for state inspection. it's strictly age based. BUT technically everything has to be there and working it's just not operationally checked. Older than 84 the cat isn't visually checked. Now does that mean the inspector will care on a safety inspection? Your results may vary

The mileage restriction is only if you have classic tags and how are they gonna check?

There are no mileage restrictions for classic. There are for antique. Classic gets a good old fashioned safety inspection, an antique does not. Neither have to be emmisions tested.
