Yeah that's a great idea, just fuck him up more and when he kills someone else, what then?
They claim jail is suppose to "teach you a lesson" when in reality it just makes you a better criminal.
All the justice system does is create an inconvenience to learn how to be better at breaking the law next time.
I don't have a better solution, but the current system of placing a foe in jail to just release them when their time is up isn't working at all.
If it did work, and it wasn't a waste of tax dollars and time then there wouldn't be such a high rate of repeat offenders.
Crime and punishment has been a topic that the greatest minds in the world have contemplated, and yet this is the best solution we have to date.
There are prison models elsewhere that work on much harsher rules, for example your family pays for your meals and support. If your family does not pay, you don't eat. That way people don't want to commit offenses because they become a burdon.
If he gets "fucked up more" that's not my damn fault. He shouldn't have done something to get in there.
I think there needs to be prison reform where they cannot interact and learn new trades and/or be better criminals. They should not have access to TV, weights, college, etc..
Those who repeat are those inclined to do so. Here is a good 80+ page document to read about recidivism:

I agree with you that there are dumbass attorneys that will say whatever they think will get their client out of whatever predicament they've found themselves in, especially when there's money in it for them. I'm dealing with 2 of them right now. What makes it even worse is that what we say on the record is out there for everyone to read, which even worsens people's opinions of my profession. What the attorney said is inexcusable. To say that his client isn't a danger to others is laughable and to say that if the victim wasn't drunk they wouldn't be where they are is absolutely stunning. I learned in Torts and Criminal Law the theory that "you take your victim as you find him". Meaning that if the victim would have died as a result of something related to drinking it might be appropriate to say something like that, but that's not the case. But for his client hitting him, he wouldn't have fallen and hit his head, one or both of which caused his death. Attorneys like this embarrass my profession.
But, as the old saying goes, no one ever likes a lawyer until they need one.

Its a cheap source of labor yo! They do everything from make license plates to work call centers! All at 10-25 cents an hour!
In this image, USSR is the second leading jailer per capita. I'm sure alcohol has a factor in this.
This is also taken from wikimedia, so take it with a grain of salt.
This is also a good document to read:
Check out page 2, paragraph 2.
