I was an army recruiter in 2007. This could be a fun time, or a boring time. Peace time Army should be fun, but with $1,000,000,000 in cuts over the next ten years, it could suck also. I never served under Clinton but the older guys always talked about the "clinton era army" in a negative tone.

With that Rotc time, he should be able to enlist as an e-4

I just checked that out, looks like a good program. I will talk to him about it tonight and let him read through the information to see if that is something he's interested in. Seems good to me though, 2 years of tuition assistance from the GI Bill and drill once a month and be a 2nd Lieutenant upon graduation, and go either either Guard or Army active duty.

I just recently got out of the Navy and still have contact with many knowledgeable guys. My info is mainly related to Submarine force though. I work with prior Army and Marines, guys still going over to play in the sand. Let me know if I can help.

You also have the possibility of scholarships/grants through ROTC and an Additional Duty Service Obligation to help pay off student debt.

Can you still get the GI Bill in the NG though?

Ahhh that blows, still not bad though. I've done work with the NG guys and most of the time they aren't doing shit or are off f'n off somewhere. But I also worked with the 94A's...

I *think* NG might be able to get post 9/11 gi bill if deployed, though. Not full payment, but like 60%.

No, that doesn't blow. I make more monthly using the Montgomery gibill in combination with the hazel wood act, then I would using the post 9/11. Researchhhhhh

Question semi related to thread. I have recently become interested in some branch of the military. But, I happen to be a fit 29 years old and have not finished my degree. Is there any branch that would have me or any that you guys could recommend?

My marine buddy and I agree either Coast Guard or Navy/Air Force and pick a technical field for active duty. Going Marines you will be treated just like the 18-19 yr old pukes in line with you. CC only because it seems more laid back. Navy/AF will have the technical stuff to support you later down the road.
