As stated above, it's not an LS3. However, I'm sure you'll be OK in the long run with any regularly maintained LSx. The now 8 y/o LS1 in the goat has been solid so far and gets 23-24mpg highway. And it's an A4.
I can’t speak for the C6s but the C5s were reliable, at least mine was. My 2002 C5A4 saw many, many trips down the 1/4 mile starting with a stock setup for a few weeks and then with 3.90 gears, a HUGE cam and beefed up tranny, borrowed heads from Kumar, and on and on, we got to 10.6's routinely. It still was my daily driver, albeit, the cam was a bit radical, but it sure sounded good! I demoded it back to stock after 2 years and sold it and all the performance parts.
Back to stock, it ran like it did when it was new. I never had any problems with the car the entire 2 years and I ended up putting 20K miles on it, many trips down the drag strip at Ennis and Hallsville. Only visible areas that hinted it was a race car after 2 years were the plugged up holes under the car for the roll cage bolts!

1993 LX Drag Car

picking up a black/black 6speed (manual) ls3 vette tonight, incredibly excited.
thanks for the input everyone.
The only issue i have had is they are slow as balls Stock.. mine made 390 rwhp stock and felt like it was CRAWLING...
do you plan to mod it? if so bolt ons or major stuff?
you can throw some headers/intake/tune on it and make 430-440.. add a cam and 480-500 rwhp. With a good tunner they can still drive like stock.
at 500 rwhp i was getting 17-18 city and 28-29 Cruising around the freeway with out my foot in it.
over all they are good cars.

I'll probably do exhaust/intake, but since the warranty is good until 100k miles I don't want to do too much to it right now. I need to do some research and see if using my HP Tuners on it will void the warranty, I know with the new Mustangs they go straight to the PCM to see if it's been touched. Just sucks cause I have the credits to spare w/the HP tuners module I use for the ls-coupe...
Honestly I plan to just use it as a fair weather commuter for a while. Sarah will drive it a lot and it'll be more then quick enough for a while. It may not be the quickest thing on the road, but if felt amazing on the test drive, handled great, good power, etc. I am sure like everything once I drive it for a while enough will soon not be not enough, but I am really excited to bring her home.

GM States they will void the warrenty if a tune is in place and it sketchy as to if they REALLY can tell if it was tuned and then put back to stock.
if you do intake and headers you really need to have it tuned, because you will throw maf scaling codes with certain CAI's and cat codes if you go offroad X.
if you want to really keep the warrenty, just leave it alone.
