Are money orders anonymous?

I have never needed to get a money order before. I want to donate anonymous to something. Should I get it through the post office? If I do this, will it have anything printed on it indicating what post office I used? I'm afraid if it does, this person will know where it came from and I really don't want that.

There are numbers on USPS money orders, it is how they are verified, so I'm sure that they could somehow trace it to the PO that it was purchased. I doubt they could trace it to the purchasing person, unless they used the security cams in the PO, but doubt that would happen, unless you are trying to donate to a terrorist organization.

Use cash to buy the money order and the only way to find out who did it is to watch the video.

And if they did figure out which station it came from, there is no way a government office is going to release video to some citizen.

If you buy it from the Post Office it will show were you got it from, it will have the zip code printed on it were it was purchased from or should I say what Post Office it was bought from but that's all it will show.
