  • THE General Lee up for auction

    ...

The original “General Lee” from “The Dukes of Hazzard” TV series is set to cross the block at the Barrett-Jackson collector car auction in Scottsdale, which starts on Jan 17th.

Known as “Lee 1,” this is the car seen flying through the air during the opening credits of the show, and was used during the filming of the first episode before being wrecked as it landed the famous jump. It was the first of more than 300 cars used during the seven-year run of the program. Only a couple of dozen are still known to exist.

The orange 1969 Dodge Charger was discovered sitting in a Georgia junk yard about a decade ago by the founder of The North American General Lee Fan Club, Travis Bell, who paid less than a grand for it, according to a report from Inside Line.

It then passed through several owners before one of them brought it back to Bell and asked him to do a complete restoration, which was completed in 2007.

Awesome. There used to be one out in Kaufman. Some famous guy that lived in Warsaw owned it. Haven't seen it in a long time though, he probably sold it.

                think they'll trade a 92 LX and $500?

Of course they're going to say it is "Lee 1" to try and get the most money for it at the already ridiculously inflated Barret-Jackson auction. It'll be interesting if someone actually tries to make them prove it is "Lee 1". I mean hell there were only 300+ cars used, surely it wouldn't be that hard to identity, right? I doubt they kept a VIN record of which car was number 1, 2, 3, etc.

I guess I get it that someone would want one of these cars... but who the hell wants a wrecked that's been fixed?

Lee 1 does have some ID markings of some kind, and the VIN was recorded. Seems like only the first few were numbered, then they were just thrown together.

Would BJ not do some digging to ensure they were selling what they are claiming to sell?

There were MANY General Lees. Basically, they junked one every time they jumped creek beds, etc.
