  • Did not see this - Deputy, Suspect Injured After Robbery

At least this guy won't be robbing any more banks....

A violent altercation after the robbery of a Fort Worth credit union has put both the suspect and officer responding in the hospital.

According to officials, around 9:45 a.m. the suspect entered the Fort Worth Community Credit Union on 6454 Brentwood Stair Road and presented a note demanding money to a teller.

After the suspect left, an employee notified the off-duty Tarrant County deputy who was working security of the robbery. The deputy ran after and caught up with the suspect.

A confrontation in the parking lot led to the suspect stabbing the deputy in the neck. The deputy shot the suspect in the head during the confrontation. Both men were taken to area hospitals.

"This is a situation that officers don't ever want to be in. However, the sheriff's deputy has a job to do. He did his job. He did it very well," Sgt. Pedro Criado of the Fort Worth Police Department said.

"It's the phone call you never want to get. And obviously, over the 30 years, I had a bunch of them, unfortunately. At least when this one came, I was told that he was talking and was conscious. And it wasn't a situation where he was gravely injured or worse," Tarrant County Sheriff Dee Anderson said.

Terry Grisham of the Tarrant County Sheriff's office indentified the injured deputry as Frederick Bauer. Bauer, 58, is a eight year veteran of the Tarrant County Sheriff's Department and is considered an experienced deputy approved to work off-duty at a credit union.

Grisham said an routine internal investigation is being undertaken concerning Bauer's use of deadly force during the incident.

Police have arrested the suspect and have him under guard at John Peter Smith Hospital. The name of the suspect has not yet been not released. The suspect is expected to be charged with aggravated robbery and attempted capital murder, according to Criado.

Officials say a possible suspect getaway vehicle was in the parking lot and fled the scene. Police are trying to determine if broken glass found in the parking lot is from the deputy shooting at the car. Grisham says Bauer may have wounded the driver of the supposed getaway vehicle. That suspect is still at large.

This is the second time that the Fort Worth Community Credit Union was robbed this month.

Both the suspect and the deputy responding are in the hospital after a robbery at a Fort Worth credit union.

That's the branch I use, and I've met Deputy Bauer on several occasions. He's a very nice, but professional man. From what I've been hearing, he's at home and recovering well. The dirtbag perp, well, if he survives, probably won't be seeing the outside of a prison for a long time. Hopefully the get away driver will be found soon.

Glad the deputy will be fine. And awesome job if he was able to wound the getaway driver to boot...

I hope the deputy makes a full recovery and the subject gets to suffer behind bars.

I couldn't be a cop...everyone I pulled over would automatically get shot in the foot, then cuffed while I check things out/write the ticket. Just to make sure nothing will go wrong.

When my wife and I see a cop or state trooper pulling someone over in pitch dark with backup at least 10 minutes away...we shake our heads and wonder how LEO's do that job.

So it's cool to shoot at a car fleeing the scene? I did not know that.

I guess I always figured you could only shoot if they were trying to run you over.

Either way, glad the cop's okay, and glad he shot the scum who robbed the bank.

Only if you're a cop; otherwise, your defense of self becomes "excessive".

Example, this guy is under scrutiny:

To OP article...wonder where in the head the BG got hit? Good shooting? Or just close range?

Peace Officers can shoot at a fleeing felon.

I heard that the BG is only alive due to life support. He isn't expected to make it.

It's a real shame he can't cost the taxpayers more money for the next 50 years.
