I was stopped by a Highway Patrolman in Missouri late one night many years ago that had a tail light out on his cruiser. As he passed me going the opposite direction on a 2 lane highway I noticed the light was out and I immediately started debating if I should bring it up or not since I knew he had me dead to rights for speeding. He turned around and pulled me over for speed over the limit and before he went back to his cruiser with my license and insurance I asked him if he knew he had a tail light out. I think he thought I was trying to be funny at first, but when he paused I told him I was just trying to be polite by informing him of it. He went and checked it, and it was not illuminated. He ran my DL and it was clean, when he came back he chuckled while handing my credentials back and said I had a good eye for detail and to please slow down. Whether or not that was the deal breaker I'll never know, but I pulled away thinking it couldn't have hurt the situation.

That just says that they have to be inspected and meet the same requirements. There are exemptions covered elsewhere in the Transportation Code, so keep digging.

Hardly a burn because it's incorrect.

The exemptions allow officers to work contrary with existing regulations to perform duties. How else would it be legal for officers to speed to catch speeders, run red lights in a pursuit, or block traffic on the freeway for an accident? Try doing these things in a personal vehicle and there will be consequences. I've seen posts about you guys bitching about police cars with limo tint, when we can't have that on our personal cars. How do you think the squad cars get inspected with limo tint? Becuase there is an exemption.

I'm not saying that it's allright to drive around with one headlight, because it isn't. That car should be deadlined and fixed. Same with any other light on the car. If the police are going to cite people for equipment, then theirs should work too.

That's because police have better eyesight than the regular citizen!

They'll replace the entire car just because a headlight is out? No wonder they need to write so many tickets.

Mike lawry uses his own car for police work. I just think he should be fined for being a dumbass. Not knowing you have a brake light out; ok that makes sense. Not knowing you have a headlights out; that's called not paying attention. I would bet every dime I had that this same officer is the same type of person who is texting while driving down the road

I was in Houston driving, and a Tahoe was tailgating me HARD (less than 10ft). I move over, and as he passes by, I realize its a cop Tahoe. That made me so mad I called 911 and reported that pig. I hate those fucktards that think they are above the law.

We're you in the left hand lane? If so slower traffic needs to move over.
