Part of it does come from here; but keep in mind a good portion of what is posted on this forum are links to actual news stories with sources about bullshit the police are/have been doing. If you would like to post sourced links involving praise the police stories I would be more than happy to read them, but it seems the days of the Sheriff Andy Taylor types are long gone.
I have around 16 commendations and zero disciplinary in my file at work after ten years in a pretty rough part of town. Last year one of them was for shutting down a burglary ring in the north end of the city. I have a letter in my box right now from a citizen I helped a few weeks ago, and another lady the other night is going to wright one to my chief. You will never ever see this on the news because no one cares about officers doing what they are paid to do, nor would I expect to see it. All anyone ever wants to here about is what dipshit screwed up and how bad. Do not base your opinions on police based on random stories here and there. Just like any other proffesion we have our share of special ed but thats just the numbers. We shag about 60 calls a day by five officers so occasionaly there will be an error here and there. Last thursday when I worked we had five domestics, one major accident, two good shootings in progress, and a guy on PCP we had to extract from a cell he had broke out the glass on that looked like something on elm street. That was mixed in with all the other calls. It is very easy to second guess the police when you have no idea what the job takes to do or what is going on prior to or after a call. Just sayin......

Exemptions are absolutely necessary. Just like diplomatic immunity.

I don't agree with marked units having limo tint except maybe the back windows on K9 units. The driver needs to have clear vision at all times.

I've had plenty of run-ins with decent officers, and most of us on here are not talking about errors or little mistakes that get made, most of us understand those. The problem is that there is a fast growing trend of law enforcement (federal, state, and local) who think they are either above the law themselves, or don't give a damn about it or rights. It's not like we are talking about 5 or 6 non-sourced stories a year; we are talking about sourced news articles and videos that usually have multiple witnesses and number in the hundreds to thousands a year nationally. And it's not like the video thing is new; we have seen them since the beginning of the internet but it does seem that these bad cops stories are growing exponentially each year, and I stress that I am not talking about stories like a hood rat getting beaten because he ran from police after purse snatching.

I hope what you claim about your record is true; if it is great because this country needs more officers like that but in today's environment of overreaching government intrusion it is really hard to believe. I personally have only had one bad run-in with law enforcement, but it's not like my story is the only one out there. And to be clear I never said absolutely fuck all the police all of the time or that I have zero respect for you guys, but I do have a strong distrust because of those bad apples you mention and as a result I am very cautious when it comes trusting officers until I see them not fuck with someone for the hell of it. I have a lot of respect for our local sheriff her in Midland but that is because he has been earned through almost 30 years of respecting the public and our rights in this county. Unfortunately it seems he is in the minority these days, that is all I am saying.

To be fair I say fuck diplomatic immunity as well. That shit gets abused FAR too often.

A scrap metal dumpster truck flipped over on the ramp. My rookie and I got the call at 0230hrs. When we left at 0745hrs they were still cleaning up. It sucked but, I got almost 2hrs of overtime though.

The ONLY reason I bring it up is because of I've been there. It's my opinion, if you have a tail light out you should be pulled over and noticed of thee problem, not ticketed.

In ten years I have been called in twice for complaints that were unfounded. One was a guy who robbed the corner conveinance three days after he complained on me for mean mugging him in the alley were we where having burglaries. The second was a guy that could not understand how he could be arrested for running out of a vacant home and having felony warrants. He complained about six times on the other two guys and they finally took one on me in the end. He said I dumped out his moutrin. It was actually some sort of narcotic in a plastic bag we let him make it on and ground up into the concrete. I have never even had to pepper spray or taser anyone to this point. I am sure I have screwed up my share of stuff over the years but we all make mistakes. With as many law enforcement interactions that go on all over the world everyday it is not hard to see that there will always be some sort of misconduct popping up here and there. No different then every other company out there except we get grouped in together. It would be like blaming Fed EX for UPS losing your package.

I stopped a guy for 100+ in a 60 and gave him a handful of tickets (no DL, no insurance, speeding, etc) and I got a call on my way home from evening shift that he was in the ER claiming I beat him with my baton.

I was worried because it was only him and me, and it would end up my word against his (this was early 90's before video).

He went to IAD and filled out a formal complaint and showed the investigating Lieutenant bruising. It wasn't looking good, but I knew I never touched him. He gave consent for medial records, and the ER diagnosis was what saved me from this lying SOB. His bruises weren't from an assault, it was skin cancer.

I'm a BMF if I can beat cancer into someone.

The shitty thing about this is even though the story was fabricated, I still have an "Excessive Force" complaint on my record.

At least we have recompense against fedex and ups. Plus, if they screw up people's lives aren't adversly affected.
