Been out scouting three times in the last week. Actually had a clean shot the other day and when I squeezed the trigger, it was a dead click. Stupid assed cheap russian ammo! Dripped it back in the hole and it went bang the second time...
Not a problem man. Hog hunting is by far my favorite. Best eatin too.

And while I am in all agreeance that they are a menace, no creature deserves multiple hits in non-vital areas.

My family (essentially I, because no one else cares) own land up in Sherman, but Hogs are creatures that tend to want three things in their environment (which helps tracking/finding them easier)

      1) Water source with shallow entry so they can "wallow" to cover the insects/parasites on them and suffocate them in the mud.
      2) Trees so they can rub this mud (and thus the parasites) off once drying (they especially like Creatine covered poles/trees)
      3) Thick brush so they can bed down for the night

My land has none of these, so I have not had the opportunity other than a single sow crossing my land into the neighbors land (which I could not pursue)

Best bet is corn in a obvious movement path (ground all beat down with hoove marks), sit up in a tree downwind with a red flashlight (bright light startles them) and just wait for the "grunting" sound.

      Light em up.

If you guys need help, my .308 is always willing to lend a fireball or two for the cause.

Edit: One other thing that is essential for hog hunting is patience. Don't expect to show up and just hundreds pour out and it's a target rich environment. You have to hunt, bait, wait THEN shoot.
.308? Are you hunting them from 300 yards?

Also, just fyi, feral hogs are largely nocturnal, so they need a place to bed down more during the daylight hours than during the night.

Whoops, bad habit I guess saying "night". You are completely right, they eat during the night and sleep during the day.

And no I don't reach out and touch them, I just like having a bit of weight behind the shot, but a .223/5.56 will certainly do if placed correctly.

                  can you donate feral hogs?

If so man i'd be a hunting fool if i was still living down there and had access to ground.

The only fun thing i get to hunt all year is coyotes. I really only do that when i get paid for them.

That hog second from the left doesn't look but a couple of generations from the hog pin.
