Wearing the red patch on the shoulder; Doing the job in a dedicated manner can be both emotionally and spiritually rewarding. However, it is not financially rewarding. Working for a Private Ambulance company with a @65% accounts receivable puts a concrete ceiling on income and upward mobility. That combined with circumstances that led to a premature burnout, makes for a very long story short. Accountability/Liability is significantly disproportionate to pay scale. My hats off to all the career EMS folks out there. They have the passion and drive that is commendable. I went from having great zeal for the job to apathy way too quick. Cant do the job effectively when you no longer give a shit or are paranoid about that next SIDS call. Then you find yourself in dilemma regarding medical ethics. That was my cue to exit. I have a degree on the wall that isn't worth the paper it's printed on. And I'm OK with that.
IT; In-demand job market. Very good pay, even for bottom tier support jobs. You spend very little money to get all the MCSE/CompTIA/Cisco certs you can accumulate in a short time frame. Get your foot in the door by sharpening your interviewing skills. Start out as a lowly Desktop Support Tech, like most. The company pays to further your education even more with more IT certs. A few years down the road you're staring at a variety of opportunities in a technology field that is in a constant state of change. Kind of cool. Dove into Web Design/Web Development a few years back and I like it. It's challenging, fun, and mundane all at the same time. I can work from home, flexible hours, etc..

3.90...
Thanks for clearing all up how to change that, but I don't mind supporting them. I am computer illiterate, so I don't mind people making fun of me.
Sorry to hear about your career as an MICT, I will grad next december and hope to get on w/ a fire service. I've heard much better things when tied to fire than I have private ambulance company's. The pay is pretty good here at $60k in 5 years working 120 days a year... gives you plenty of time w/ family/kids. Not to mention the pensions. More than enough for the cost of living w/ my wife in dental hygiene. I hope to not get burnt out as many have, but I have high hopes. It shows a lot that you walked away when you did and chose to "do no harm" as what could have happened if you stuck around. The guys have told me my sympathy will be the first thing to go... but hoping that's not the case as I do enjoy working w/ people. I'm sure running high call volumes in Dallas metro would be killer w/ running a whole bunch of bullshit calls (homeless looking for a free ride, I am glad to help those who are scared and just don't know any better)
Thanks for the tips on cardiology as well... just overstressed myself, but it's all gravy so far.
