Dallas news, headlines, weather, sports and traffic from KDFW FOX 4 News, serving Dallas-Fort Worth, North Texas and the state of Texas.

FORT WORTH - A woman shot and killed an home intruder in her exclusive Fort Worth neighborhood early Thursday morning, according to police.
Officers first received reports of a prowler in the 6700 block of Fortune Road near the Ridglea Country Club about 3:30 a.m.
According to Fort Worth Police Public Information Officer Sharron Neal, the woman, who was home alone, told police that someone rang her doorbell, then broke into her home.
Before she dialed 911, the woman reportedly called her husband, who was away traveling. He advised her to retrieve a gun kept in the home for protection.
Officer Neal said when officers arrived a few minutes later, they found a man inside the home with a gunshot wound to the torso.
The suspect was rushed to John Peter Smith Hospital, where he later died of his wounds.
Officer Neal also said the family had recently purchased the home.
Fort Worth police are interviewing the woman at downtown headquarters.

Everyday I leave for work I think about "is this the day they steal all of my shit"....Sucks, I need to invest in an alarm system as it seems these breakins are occuring more frequently or the news coverage has increased.

      <----Methodical and paranoid mind here

We have guns but that does not help much when you are not there to protect. But I do take my gun with me everyday in my car. I would rather them steal my electronics than my gun...could lead to a far more serious crime.

Unfortunately, this the MO for daytime burglars.

Ring doorbell, if no one answers, kick door and loot home.

I worked a call a couple of months ago where this 17 yoa B/M rang a door bell, and the woman (Mexico native) did not answer the door because she had no friends/relatives here and the only people that came to her home were to visit her husband. Since he was at work, she did not see who it was.

The male, thinking no one was home, kicked in the front door and she heard the racket. She went to see what the noise was, and when she rounded the corner, she spooked the kid who shot her in the arm and ran.

We caught him a few days later and he confessed to the offense.

Ridglea Hills, not a bad area but by no means "exclusive". I mean, the house is a typical "ranch" that doesn't look "swanky".

I love these feel good news stories. Good for her. I hope when they "rushed" the criminal to the hospital they took the scenic route.

You're suppose to imagine she was lounging at home drinking a brandy in her white fur robe laying across her fainting couch when she heard a rapping at the door. Then, you're suppose to think she enticed the poor neglected victim into the house with wads of cash where she shot him in the back.

That's what the word "exclusive" means.
