I tried to break the tires loose on a wet road the other day and it could not do it. It did have 33" mud tires on it but still. They are cool vehicles for the trails... but not to drive everyday. I was very uncomfortable in it.

I think Jen mentioned to me before that some people are just Jeep people and love them... some aren't.
Yeah, it's not a go-fast vehicle...especially with the lift and tires. Living in Dallas and using it as a daily, you basically just had a pretty Jeep. LOL

Mine is my daily, but I've always been a Jeep person, and I don't live in a metroplex. My first Jeep was a '77 CJ, so the Unlimited is a luxury car, in comparison! Robert bitches constantly about the lack of acceleration and performance, but he is a Mustang guy. I'll let him do his performance enhancements and all, because he has to have something to tinker with, but it really doesn't make a difference to me, as our next relocation will be to the USVI, so it will be a great island runabout.

True. And I got tired of the constant trying to find the new rattle game. Effing annoying. For about a month she kept wanting to just trade up to a 2012 Jeep. I was never willing and said we couldn't until she wanted to trade into something else.

I used to be anti-minivan but we've gotten spoiled with sliding doors. It's perfect for parking lots since you don't have to worry about swinging a door open while still having room to pull out a carrier. I bought my wife a Mazda5 and liked it so much, I bought one as well. It's built on the Mazda3 chassis so handles nice, rides smooth and it's not terribly slow. I think once my boy starts walking and/or can go into a convertible car seat that stays in the car, I will probably sell one of them and get a sedan (CTS-V???). So far, the wife wants to keep hers indefinitely.

Not mine but looks the same. Has heated seats, bluetooth, sat radio... all that shit.

The new Toyota Sienna doesn't look too shabby either

There is also a REAL possibility that we will adopt a 2nd child two months after that. So my wife wants something larger. She is serious enough that we have been out looking at minivans today.

So far she is leaning towards a Dodge Grand Caravan R/T. Her main reason for looking at minivans is that she wants the sliding doors for easy access. I've been trying to point her towards a Durango, Arcadia, or Ford Flex, but to little success. The Flex comes close but no sliding doors = no interests..

I need counter arguments. The R/T is a decent vehicle but its a damn minivan.

              Station Wagons = Good
Minivan's BAAAD. Fire BAAAD.. BEER Gooooooooood...
Get the sport version of the honda mini van...then wear khaki pants and get a bowl cut.

go find a 90' model Grand Caravan with the 2.5l turbo and put a remote boost controller on it. When the wifey drives it turn the boost all the way down. When you drive it, turn the boost up to about 30psi, put race gas in it...and blow the doors off 2011 Mustang GT's. It might take a couple more mods than just boost to do that...but wouldn't it be fun to take a wood panel mini-van to the track and eat up modern muscle cars

My buddy has a Mazda 5 too, him and his wife love it. It's small, handles decent, and they even offer them with a 5 speed manual transmission.

No kids thank God, but I was a kid once. My parents never had a mini van, and they did just fine with me and my sis. An suv, wagon, or sedan will hold kids just fine, and you won't stall out on every hill that you have to drive up. If for some reason your dogs all ride around with you then the sedan will be too small, but the others won't. Hell, even a 4 door pick-up would work. One trip to Seattle or the rockies, and both your wife and you will be ready to never step foot in another mini van. That's my piece, I'm 110% against mini vans. Then again I'm still in my 20's, and its really what ya'll want, not what a bunch of car guys like.

Just refer to her as "Mini Van Mamma" for the next couple of weeks.

How about an Expedition/Suburban/Denali XL/Escalade ESV? Little longer wheelbase for the rear cargo room, third row seats if you need it, not a minivan...

not if you buy pre-owned. does it have to be new?

Perfect example, I have a 09 Expedition Eddie Bauer, 31K miles, under $30k....

I was shocked at how expensive minivans are. Fuck that, just get an suv.
