Every once in a while I would get a whiff of gas on the patio near an inground gas grill and the outside of the gas fireplace. I called the gas company and they came out (in like 5 minutes!) with a sniffer. They never found the leak. Turned out (years later) that the inground gas grill line underground was corroded. I don't know why their sniffer did not find it because he was all over that area.

This... At our old house in Hurst they came put and replaced the line from the street to the meter, free! They do NOT want a Nat Gas explosion and will be onsite with a quickness to check for leaks.
