Saturday we met with the funeral director to work on getting all the details setup for my grandmothers funeral. The conversation turned to an interesting topic, that we all think about. I asked him how much he thought a funeral would cost 50 years from now, trying to lighten the room. He said 67% of people now do cremation instead of burial. I was pretty surprised by that number. He said in the next 10 years he didn't think they would be doing hardly any burials.

Pretty interesting to think the x and y generations are mostly going to be cremated.

My wife and I both want to be cremated. My grandfather passed and was cremated and it was so much easier on the family than it was on my wifes family when her grandfather passed who was buried. Nevermind the cost but having to make all the phone calls, running around, etc is just so tough at a time like that.

always wanted to be cremated since I learned about it as a kid.

I always thought mummifying and burying a human body was counter to nature and just plain creepy.

Cremating would be countering nature. Burying, not so much. I'd like to just be thrown into the chasm of the ocean when I kick, but cremation is the next best thing. Don't think I'll really give a shit either way though since, you know, I'll be fucking dead and all. Hurry up, already!

i want my organs donated and then the rest cremated. Would be cheaper and think it would be easier on the family, less burden on them

Another vote for just lighting a match under my ass when I pass... Funerals are stupid expensive and a huge waste of money so why bother?

Which is another reason why funeral homes are drastically increasing the cost of cremation these days.

Yup. He said 5 years ago, when my grandfather died, cremation was incredibly expensive, and has drastically come down.

Another vote for cremation, I live away from the rest of my family so it's cheaper and easier to cremate and then ship the urn. Then use the money saved for a heck of a wake/party.
