Or, the guy hands you a broken phone and then complains to risk management that it was fine before he handed it to you.

It's the same reason we make people take the license out of the wallet. Too many people complained that the officer took money out of the wallet when they gave it to the officer along with the license.

I'm white, have a perfect record, and drive a fairly new 1 ton diesel truck. Not too worried about that.

the past few times I've been pulled over without a card, the officer didn't even seem to care. I assumed they had access to a database now
              Same here,
Brand new car, temp plates, Louisiana Trooper pulled me over as I exited the Interstate. He never gave me a reason for the stop(I wasn't speeding, used my blinker etc...) I could not find my insurance because I am an idiot and forgot to put a copy in my car. He took my Texas DL back to the car and returned and asked when was the last time I received a ticket. Strange question but it was over 20 years ago I said. He said have a nice day and returned my DL.
I assumed he was able to pull my insurance info up because it was never mentioned?

              blue any ideas?

Nice. When I got my BMW, one of my accounts (Islamic guy) was telling me that since the dealer put a paper plate in the window and left the other plate on the car, I could get pulled over and in trouble for it. I deadpanned back "Nah, I'm white. They won't stop me." I can still see the look on his face. Priceless.

The day I got the Mustang back on the road and ready to be inspected, I called and added it to my policy. They immediately emailed me a proof of insurance with the Mustang on it. I drove my happy ass up to the inspection place and showed them my emailed copy of the card right there on my iphone. I was declined an inspection! They would not accept an electronic copy! I had to go home, print the same email I showed them on my phone, and go back up there.

Its good to hear that a LEO may accept an electronic copy, but I will try to always have a paper copy, just in case.

                    very odd thread topic, indeed.

you get new cards everytime you renew. they will even email a .pdf for you to print it out. an example being, if your bank's loan officer needs to verify a vehicle has been added to your policy before they can process the loan, such as in the case of buying a car from a private party. thus, this will expedite the process and ensure the seller receives the check before you leave the bank. it's always interesting to see a common sense issue morph into such a trivial debate. if you can't take the time to print a .pdf document, then you're lazy to the point of being absurd.
