Elf - worth watching?

He tries too hard. He's had a few special moments, but overall he's not funny.

I tend to agree, but Elf was suited to all of his strengths. I pretty much will enjoy every third movie he comes out with. He is much funnier in supporting roles and more serious movies with bursts of comedy that his timing can flow with, like Everything Must Go.
