  • Quibids?

I keep seeing commercials for quibids.com and have since been wondering about it. I looked at the FAQs on the site and it works by charging $0.60 for each bid you place.

Has anyone used it? If so, is it worth it? I'm all about saving money, but in the back of my mind, this sounds like a scam.

The. 60 bids is how the website makes their money. I can see them selling an ipad for 200 bucks because people driving up the price very little at a time at. 60 a pop.

Don't the bids run like a penny a bid, so every time someone bids one penny higher than the next guy they get $.60?

            Huge fucking scam.

Sounds too good to be true, probably is.

Nobody EVER does anything for free.

              There is always a catch.

I'm not saying it's not possibly a huge waste of money.

One of the guys at work tried it -

He "won" Arkham City for PS3 for $.01 + $9s/h. Two weeks goes by and he gets an email stating that they don't have it to sell, but he is welcome to get somethings else that they do have in stock. The items offered in place of the game weren't even related to video games, and not worth the $9 shipping and handling.

The site makes its money by selling "bid-packs". Each bid raises the current bid on the item by a penny. Each time the bid gets raised the countdown clock adds another minute or two and it just continues. If you actually win an item, you pay your winning bid plus shipping.

You can set it up to autobid for you but it will burn through your bid-pack pretty quickly.

Huge fucking scam, setup to take advantage of the dumb.

That's what I am afraid of.

Right now, I am watching one of the "auctions" that consists of a Macbook Pro 15" along with a bunch of accessories. They claim the retail value of the package is $4,200. It is currently at $71.56.

If it sold for that amount and assuming those are all "real bids" (where the buyer bought the bids), not the freebie bids they give away for buying certain items, the company would be making $4,365.15 on the "auction". That is based on each $0.01 bid costing $0.60.

Since this one will sell closer to $200, and having a perhaps more realistic real bid percentage of 75%, they would make at least $9,200 on the auction. Deduct the cost of the product (assume $4,200 even though that is more than what they got it for) and they still make $5,000.

I am not against them making money, but the commercials leave out quite a few details, making it sound a lot better than it is.

I was doing it for a while just on the 10 dollar gift certificates with 20 extra bids and would win within 5 bids, so I would win and receive $10 and 15 bids for 3 bucks shipped. But they don't have them anymore so it's a waste.

I may be one of those fools, but here's a thought...I have never even been to site but I have seen the commercials. Does it really matter how much money they make on the deal as long as you get something for a great price? From the descriptions on here that I've read it sounds like a raffle to me. Someone is selling $5 tickets to win a $75,000 car. All they really need to sell is 15,000. Think they sell more? You bet ya. But the lucky winner doesn't care. Anyone else following me or am I missing something?

They are open to make as much as they want/can, I have no problem with that. The problem is when somebody wins an auction at a super low price and then magically they can't provide the product to ship. That makes it a scam.
