Our family always left a decanter of whiske and a new pipe with a special tobacco blend.
Turns out it the pipe and tobacco was a "thank you" to my grandfather for hosting the family and all the adults had a nightcap after the kids went to bed.
I just thought Santa was a drunk because that decanter was always empty.
