  • DFWstangs detectives...need some help please

My mother was involved in a minor accident and the other driver begged her to not call the police stating he had a warrant. My mother is inexperienced in handling matters like this and she froze up and didn't know what to do. He gave her his DL and she got his first name and DL number...and he gave her an address and phone number. I called the number and another person answered the phone and gave me a sob story about a death in their family but SWORE they would pay for the damage. He did confirm with me that the driver was not insured. I did call the police but as I suspected they told me theres nothing they can do since the other driver had already left. They gave us a TXDOT accident form and said "next time call the police no matter what" (this was in Red Oak). I need to run his DL# to get his full name to see if the address matches what he gave her. If anyone can help please let me know.

Have her file it on her insurance. They'll go after the other driver later.

Its not that bad....the guy was driving a LARGE newer silver truck is all I know. He hit the back corner of her car while turning into a parking spot and smashed out the drivers side taillight completely, tore the bumper cover off the corner, and tweaked the trunk lid and fender where it meets the light. I've been down this road before so I kinda know what to expect. Technically the car is fine to drive...but with no tail-light its a ticket waiting to happen (and she has a lot of driving to do between now and Monday). She needs a rental car but I doubt the other person is going to spring for that...I'm sure he wants to go to a wrecking yard and pop in a taillight and duct tape the bumper cover up and call it good. Fuckin scum.

Just looked it over again....now I noticed the trunklid is shifted off to one side, the floor inside the left side is bowed upward and water is leaking into the trunk. KBB and NADA say the car is worth about 8 grand. I'm honestly hoping they will total it out because its never gonna be right again. Its an 06 Nissan Sentra 1.8 with about 70k miles on it.

If you get anywhere near $8k, that's like robbery. An '06 Sentra w/70k has a real-world value of probably half that or less.
